Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #21: Nevermind Popular Film

I'm in a Blusterin' mood - let's do another one, shall we? That's right - it's Blusterin' Time!

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you've asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here's the basics:

What I'll do is list a site; you're asked to critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

Site: Nevermind Popular Film
LAMB#: 330

If you're up for this treatment for your site (and you're a LAMB), send me an email with the subject "Bluster Me!" If you've already done so, no need to do it again - you're on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email (by the way, it could take a while for your site to be Blustered, since I don't run this more than once a week or so).

I think the content is quality so my only real complaints would go the way of visually. The banner is nice, the color theme is good, but it doesn't all work.

The dark blue on black is a nice theme but not the easiest to see (perhaps a lighter shade of blue?). The white background for the comments/labels stands out against the grey/blue/black backdrop that takes up most of the webpage.

I've tried changing the scheme for the comments section, but it won't go black.

But thanks for confirming my suspicions my site needs work at its visual asthetic.

I think its a well designed site. The backround (blue green grey whatever) is a little distracting considering the black and light orange colors of everything else. It lacks a uniformity. Your reviews are really well done though and I actually enjoy reading them a lot. My only issue would be for people who cant or dont have the time to read the whole review maybe like a numerical score or something of the like would be appreciated. All in all a great site and i wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I don't see any problem with the layout, maybe it was changed since the first comment?

It is clean, simple and relatively fast to load.

I, too, enjoy reading the reviews, but can I really thrust someone who actually like Blair Witch Project?

In my defense I saw it when it was 7 and I judge horror to a relatively low-standard. Especially with what passes now.

Hi, your site appears to be down. Just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware.

Great layout - looks really good!

Though I always feel that anyone who has gone this far (finding blogs) for movie critiques, probably already knows how to find film trailers, so personally I wouldn't have the trailers.

Also thought the 'preview' is a little bit like a trailer in text.

I like blogs that have a new and interesting take on something -information I already know seems a bit pointless. The reviews were nice a snappy though!

Good idea of keeping spoilers off the front page, even if I have to navigate through the blog, which I hate having to do. Having read your spoilers... Spoilers aren't supposed to ruin the entire movie, just parts of it (and no, the end is not a "part"). Why would you give away the ending? If I've already seen the movie, I don't need a refresher, and if I haven't seen the movie, why would I bother now?

As for the layout choices, I think your site should be wider, and that a black background is a bad idea, it's hard to read.

I really like the VIZU poll thing you've got there. I think I'll be looking into that.

Pros:
1. Adsense is smoothly integrated to the blog.

2. It's well organized and I can look for the category (ex: Trailers, Reviews and The Vault) I want very quickly.

3. Good thing that your warn people that they should expect to see spoilers in the review.

Cons:
1. Wouldn't it possible to use the "Read more" for all posts?

Not really feeling the Adsense at the top of the page, but everything is looking tip top. Like your guys' writing styles and love the banner. Good content, keep it up.

Spoilers are pretty self-explanatory, but that was a one-time deal just for The Box.

(I'm a bit late on commenting - all apologies)

There's a lot to like about this blog - a very nice rhythm to the posts (did that comment even make sense??), and a very clean layout.

I know the "clean layout" part has been mentioned already, but for me that's huge. Too many blogs out there feel far too messy.

The only thing I might request is a *little* bit more original content. What this LAMB'er brings to their reviews is a very strong voice...use that voice to talk about other movie-related thoughts and topics.
