LAMB #264 - KidsFlix
[Editor's Note: This site has not posted new content in over a year (as of 5/18/11) and is now considered a dead LAMB. A moment of silence please...]

URL: http://kidsflix.blogspot.com/
Site Name: KidsFlix
Categories: Reviews, News, General, Family Films
Rating: PG (I run all kinds trailers for us grown-ups, and sometimes discuss things that aren't really meant for the kiddies)
What is the main focus of your site?
Movies that are out of the ordinary for kids. Parents run out of time and ideas and end up watching Shrek a million times over, when there are old classics, foreign films, documentaries, etc. out there waiting to be seen.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I'm trying to provide a service for parents, really. I'd love to be a resource that is used regularly. I also provide news on newer films, such as remakes or new projects that might be of interest.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
It's a little of both! I love hearing from parents recommending unknown films they've discovered, or reminding me of a classic I'd overlooked. I'd like to figure out how to encourage more comments!
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been doing KidsFlix for about seven months. I try to post every other day.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Oh, that's tough. Ok, just three ... hmmmm: Reservoir Dogs; Scorsese's The King of Comedy; Gone With the Wind.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
http://filmfather.blogspot.com/.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Why should regular film sites link to you?
Because a good chunk of general film blog audiences are also parents, and they'll thank you! Some people love slasher films, the obscure and the underground, but they still want to watch a decent movie with their nine-year old on a Saturday night.

Stump the LAMBs Movie Trivia Quiz: Godspell
Cover of Godspell
Here's the question again:
Name the movie that features its cast singing a song on top of one of the World Trade Center towers while it was still under construction.
The answer:
Godspell: A Musical Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew
The song was "All For The Best," which was written by Stephen Schwartz and performed by Victor Garber(as Jesus) and the cast on top of one of the World Trade Center towers.
The following LAMBs got the answer right:
Jess of Insight Into Entertainment
Dean Treadway of filmicability with Dean Treadway
Tony Dayoub of Cinema Viewfinder
Deedee of NoirishCity
Here's the next question:
Name the movie that features three actors who went on to play doctors on the same 1990s television show.
I could make this really difficult by asking you to name the actors, the television show and the movie. But I won't. So to qualify, your answer only has to include the following:
1. The movie name
2. Your name
3. Your blog name
4. Your blog URL
Send your submission to Carla of Tricky Movie Trivia at info[@]trickymovietrivia.com by midnight EDT April 10, 2009.
Good luck!
Comments will be closed to prevent inadvertent posting of the answer.

LAMB #262 - The Film Vituperatem
URL: http://www.filmsquish.com/guts/
Site Name: The Film Vituperatem
Categories: Reviews and Editorials of Classic and current Schlock and Superb cinema!
Rating: Let's say between PG-13 with the occasional NC-17
What is the main focus of your site?
From Obscurity Revealed To The Classics You Haven't Quite Gotten Around To
I use, as a guide, generally 1001 Movies you must See before you Die
http://www.filmsquish.com/guts/?q=taxonomy/term/53/9
as well as segments on Schlock.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Toss out some rage with the occasional insight, and main get people to explore outside of their realm of comfort, whether it be terrible movies, Silent film or Avant Gard... of even *GASP* - subtitled movies older than the reader!!
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Ideally I'd like to be more involved with the Community, I love blog-othons and have hosted some. Without the community I would be far less knowledgeable, however given that I used to read other sites at work, and servers now block those, I'm trying to find other venues of community participation. Lammy sounds perfect.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Over 2 years with Filmsquish, and 2 years before that with a blogspot. updates go up erratically - daily to monthly, usually 1 a week.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Requiem For a Dream
Dawn of the Dead
Onibaba
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Final Girl!
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.

Quick note
I'm not a big fan of word verification, but I'm turning it on for the short term, as I've noticed a higher-than-usual number of spam comments coming through, not only on my sites but on a number of others as well. I've seen just about enough of these "comments" to last a lifetime.

Poll results; new poll
Yes, this post commemorating the results of the last poll is roughly a month old, considering it was about the Oscars. Better late than never, no?
Nothing much to interpret with them, either, as I was gauging interest in the Oscars telecast. With an audience of (mostly, I would assume) film bloggers, a tally of 71% with at least marginal interest and 52% with religious interest seems par for the course.
New poll is up. There's talk (at the LAMB Forums) of a podcast in the LAMB's future (SPOILER!), and I'm wondering if anyone's going to end up listening to it besides me...

LAMB #261 - All Things Kocinski - Rants and Raves... Facts and Figures from THIS GUY

URL: http://christiankocinski.wordpress.com/
Site Name: All Things Kocinski - Rants and Raves... Facts and Figures from THIS GUY
Categories: Reviews, Editorials, Humor, General
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
When I started my blog, I intended it to be a place for me to write about anything and everything, with the occasional movie review thrown in. As it's grown over the last 6 months, it has become just the opposite... I have always enjoyed watching movies, and I enjoy writing about movies... I have never had an official soapbox to write reviews, so this site has become that soap box... it's a place for me to write movie reviews on movies young and old. With the occasional post about anything and everything thrown in. My blog also acts as a companion to my movie review podcast, where I write a formal review on some of the movies that I talk about in my show.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My blogging goals, is to become a stronger movie reviewer... and discuss movies in general, whether they are from 1930, 1972, or 2009... No movie is too old to review.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Interactive Community...
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been movie blogging for about 6 months, but I have been reviewing movies on my podcast for about a year... I (try to) update my site once a week with at least one movie review... and twice a week, with general conversation that is not movie related.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Brazil
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Peter Pan (Disney)
How did you hear about the LAMB?
I read Matte Havoc.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I am interested in being listed on this site, despite the fact that only about 90% of my posts on this site are Movie related... as I stated above it started out as a general blog about life, and quickly shifted gears into my place to write about movies.

LAMB #260 - 10 Movies to See Before You Die
[Editor's Note: This site's url is no longer functioning. A moment of silence please...]

URL: http://www.10moviestosee.com/
Site Name: 10 Movies to See Before You Die
Categories: Reviews, News, Horror, Genre, Humor, General
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of my site is to share my informed comments and reviews on the movies I see and the stuff I do (movie specific, of course), as well as noteworthy film and industry related news items. While I am sort of a generalist, I tend to focus on anything that is considered a ‘genre’ movie (horror, cult, comics, action, sci-fi, etc).
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I enjoy sharing my film experiences with my readers and helping them find their own satisfying film experiences. As a result it is my goal to be a go-to site in the Toronto area for people looking to enhance their own experiences and find quality screenings and films to go to. In addition, for those who can’t make it to a film event in Toronto (such as a festival) I aim to inform on the experiences I’ve had. I continue to evolve my blog to help reach this goal.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I love being part of a community! I don’t get too many comments right now, but because of this blog I have discovered a wonderful community of Toronto bloggers. I can only hope that continuing to grow my blog will also grow my involvement in this community.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging for almost two years. As of January 2009 I post every weekday at least once, generally multiple times.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Garden State
Dogtown and Z-Boys
Star Wars: A New Hope
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Through the community mentioned above.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
The question I would ask myself is, “Why do you blog about movies?”, which is, of course, ridiculously difficult to answer, but important nonetheless. When I think about this question lots of things come up, but I think the simple answer is, I love movies. From the time I was young I loved the experience of movies. I couldn’t get enough. I wanted to go to film school and ultimately write and produce flicks of my own. As I got older I was talked out of all those dreams, but I didn’t lose the passion. Done with school for many years now, I find myself with the same undying love for movies as when I was young, stupid and impressionable. After a trip to LA in 2007 threw me out of the frying pan and into the fire of regret for not following my dream, I decided to start blogging. Initially I was convinced no one was reading, but I needed somewhere for my musings to go. As time went on I discovered that people were not only reading, but felt I had a worthwhile contribution to make to the plethora of movie blogs already out there. So I kept on it and blogging continues to bring me a great deal of joy, community and satisfaction.

What is the main focus of your site?
I focus on reviews, trivia, editorials, and humor.

I have some serious blogging goals. My other blog is www.chaka4612.blogspot.com and it get's quite a bit of activity and has some good interaction. I do 3-4 posts per week on it. I'd like to pick up the volume and traffic at "The Movie Guy." I'd love to blog full time. Long term I'd like to make enough money to make blogging my profession but regardless of income I will continue to write about movies because I love them.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Not answered.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
