PLUG: Spaghetti Sauce and Sweet Peas
It is not my best work, but I want to try to win this just for the hell of it. The projects entered for this contest are called 3-2-1. Three pages of script. Two characters. One location.
You don't have to sign up. You just need to vote "Keep". It would be much appreciated. Below is the link. Voting ends on Thursday. Thanks!

LAMB #281 - Video Updates

URL: http://www.videoupdates.net/
Site Name: Video Updates
Categories: B-movies
Rating: NC-17
What is the main focus of your site?
Exploring the most awesomely obscure horror and sci-fi movies I can find, with a special emphasis on the early '90s and films currently unavailable on region 1 DVD.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
It's mainly an attempt to make the exact sort of blog that I would like to read: in depth information about (usually violent) cinematic oddities.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I love hearing people's reactions and suggestions, but for now I'm settling for being a teacher.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started writing regularly and seriously just this year. I try to knock out a full length "review" once a week, with two or three minor posts keeping it company.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Stalker, Videodrome, Evil Dead 2.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Most likely Final Girl.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I don't have a rating system or review movies in the normal sense, but unless I am specifically writing about a movie's unholy terribleness, every film featured on Video Updates meets a minimum unique and/or awesomeness threshold.

For Your Consideration: Matte Havoc
FYC #9 is from LAMB #20, Matte Havoc. No offense to MH author D.J. Heinlein or any of the remaining LAMBs that send in an FYC, but I'm afraid the intro to these is getting clipped, as I've gotten more of these than I had anticipated. This is a good thing, of course - it just means that I'm all the more pressed to get them all published in time before the voting ends. I'll let their artwork do the talking:

For Your Consideration: Reel Whore
FYC #8 is from LAMB #10, Reel Whore. I'm more than a little bit shocked. Of all the categories that RW author Wayne would like you to consider, he missed perhaps one of the top ones that he deserves to get some votes for - Best Theme! He is, as he puts it, "cinema's bitch," and he serves his time in theaters watching the good, the bad, and the ugly.

LAMB #279 - Cannelton Critic
URL: http://www.canneltoncritic.com/
Site Name: Cannelton Critic
Categories:Reviews
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
Current movie reviews with an occasional older film review.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I have always been an avid film watcher and I enjoyed writing reviews on Facebook-type applications, so I decided to create a blog devoted to my reviews. My hope is to get a large number of people reading my reviews and possibly watching some movies they may have skipped otherwise. And if there's ever a chance to get a little money out of it, then I would be okay with that as well, though it's not my main goal.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I enjoy interaction. I want people to comment and start discussions about movies because I understand that one man's trash is another's treasure.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been writing the blog since January of 2009. I update at least once a week, maybe twice if I watch enough interesting movies.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Apocalypse Now
A Clockwork Orange
The Empire Strikes Back
How did you hear about the LAMB?
I was checking out other movie blogs when I came across the LAMB.

FYC #7 is from LAMB #93, StinkyLulu. If you have to ask what StinkyLulu's entry for Best Running Feature is, you obviously haven't been there. Just go to Google and type in "Supporting Actress" - you'll see that StinkyLulu is on one of the first few pages for that very general search. Put another way - I would not want to play trivia against StinkyLulu if the category was Supporting Actresses...

Stump the LAMBs Movie Trivia Quiz: Easter Parade
Cover of Easter Parade (Special Edition)
Here's the question again:
Name the movie that features an actress/dancer who was not only pregnant while filming but also had to perform most of her dances in a back brace because of an injured back.
The answer:
Easter Parade
Ann Miller was the dancer in question. Sadly, she had been thrown down a flight of stairs by her husband while pregnant and hurt her back. It didn't stop her though. She just wore a back brace and soldiered on with filming Easter Parade.
Here are the LAMBs who submitted the correct answer:
Nell Minow from The Movie Mom
Wendymoon from Movie Viewing Girl
Coop Cooper from the The Small Town Critic
Coop thought the answer was Debbie Reynolds in Bundle of Joy, because she was pregnant with Carrie Fisher at the time. I couldn't find any references to her wearing a back brace during the filming of that movie but I didn't find anything to contradict it either. So Coop gets a link!
Here's the next question:
Name the movie that features cameos by two actors who play in different versions of the same-titled TV show. (Hint: The TV shows are completely unrelated to the movie.)
1. The movie name
2. Your name
3. Your blog name
4. Your blog URL
Send your submission to Carla of Tricky Movie Trivia at info[@]trickymovietrivia.com by midnight EDT May 8, 2009.
Good luck!

LAMB #278 - Behind the Couch

URL: http://watchinghorrorfilmsfrombehindthecouch.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Behind the Couch
Categories:Reviews, horror, editorials
Rating: R
What is the main focus of your site?
To provide in-depth and considered reviews of films that don’t generally tend to receive such attention. The serious discussion of horror films, independent films, straight to DVD films and cult films. While the tone is hopefully light and slightly humorous, I hope that the reviews will prove thought-provoking and insightful and maybe even generate some discussion revolving around the appreciation of such films. The more of these films I can watch with Vincent Price in them, the better.Over the course of time, I hope to include more interviews with directors, actors, producers etc of independent horror films and hopefully shed more light on the industry.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My initial intention for the blog was to create a showcase for writing and reviews of films – just a place where I can return to in order to reflect and write and share ideas and hopefully in doing so, become a more disciplined writer. I plan to write reviews of the films I watch from now on – that way I can keep myself busy, build up a nice body of written work and continue watching films and discuss them at length afterwards. It’s a somewhat cheaper alternative to post-cinema pub discussions…
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I hope that the blog will eventually become akin to a little interactive community, bringing together people with shared interests and generating discussions. At the moment it is just reviews and occasional interviews with various people involved in the production of independent horror films. People can leave comments and stuff if they feel so inclined – I guess that’s as interactive as it gets at the moment - hopefully the blog will become more interactive in the future, with discussions, debates and tie-ins with other blogs.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
My blog is still quite young, I set it up late 2008, but I do try to update it on a fairly regular basis. I’m not too stringent about this, but at the moment it would appear I update it several times a week. There have been little pockets of time when I’ve been able to update it on a daily basis. This has been really enjoyable.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Shining, I Walked With A Zombie and Lost Highway. That can’t be right. None of these have Vincent Price in them.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Looking through various blogs I hold in pretty high regard such as Paracinema... The Blog and Final Girl, I couldn’t help but notice the LAMB logo and curiosity got the better of me… I liked what I saw.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Q. Name up to three of your favorite Vincent Price movies (and no more).
A. Ahhh, that’s a tough one. Hmmm. The Last Man on Earth, The Pit and the Pendulum, Witchfinder General. No, wait! Erm. Arghh!

URL: http://www.smalltowncritic.com/
Site Name: The Small Town Critic
Categories: Reviews, News, Horror, Wide Releases, Male Interest, How to
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
Primarily movie reviews. I first started the site as an archive for my print reviews that appear in newspapers, but I have larger aspirations for it in the future (ex - "How to..." articles, products, services, etc...).
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I'm a reformed high school English teacher trying to go bad after years of following the rules. Before that I was in the film biz in Los Angeles after graduating from AFI, and something of a rebel. I yearn to once again be that rebel. I aim to go pro in my blogging endeavors and eventually offer more than just articles. I want my blog to become the platform for all of my movie-related career choices. I also want to use my blog to promote the culture, entertainment and tourism of my hometown: Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I have plans for both actually, but right now primarily a community.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've written movie reviews since 2001, but have been blogging since May of 2008. I post 1-3 times per day, often including material from contributors
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
LOST HIGHWAY, ALIENS, and DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)

The dynamically updating LAMB Scroll Box!
So, remember that post from, um, yesterday, about the new way to update the LAMB scroll box?
Well, scratch that. Because this is world's better. With many thanks to Rick from Stop the Planet of the Apes... I want to get off., you need only do one more update to the code on your site...and then never again (I hope), because all the updating on my part will now dynamically update the code to whoever has it posted on their site. Brilliant, no? Here's all you need to do:
Copy this code. Paste it where you currently have your code.
Done. Every time I edit the source code, it will update on your site. Note: if you wish to, you can edit the height, width, or LAMB button (change only the image name) displayed in the above code when placing it on your site (I do for BC, anyway).
Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
ETA: Wordpress bloggers: I've heard of some issues regarding these widgets, specifically related to getting the images to work properly. Here is a solution that has been offered that I've heard works:
* Go in Appearance > Widget. Make a new Text Widget in sidebar, paste code into that. Best is to save the picture, upload it by going to "Media" then grab the link and paste that inside the code instead of the old link.

FYC #4 is from LAMB #235, FilmFather. He and his right-hand critic/son Dash have a great angle: dads have kids. Dads watch fewer "grown-up" movies than they might have previously. Dads watch more kids movies now. FilmFather walks dads through the best and worst of 'em, along with reviews of some of those grown-up movies.

LAMB #276 - Zombos' Closet of Horror

URL: http://www.zomboscloset.com/
Site Name: Zombos' Closet of Horror
Categories: Reviews, News, Horror
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
Reviewing horror movies, primarily. I also review books and comics in the horror genre.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
World domination; but I'll settle for readers who enjoy looking at horror beyond the superficial.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
The League of Tana Tea Drinkers provides for much interactivity; I'm certainly no teacher. I prefer community activity through Twitter and Facebook, but I do correspond with my readers, either through their comments on posts, or direct email.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
For around four years now, and I post (usually) every M, W, F. I try to post a movie review at least once a week.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Citizen Kane, Casablanca (my favorite), and Halloween.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
A few bloggers I correspond with mentioned you.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
"Why do you bother to stay up late at night and blog?"
My answer: "I blog, therefore I am."

For Your Consideration: Foolish Blatherings
FYC #3 is from LAMB #244, Foolish Blaterings. It may be a relatively new LAMB, but the site's been around since September '08 and has built up a healthy blogroll and a healthy archive in that time, and even switched from Blogger to Wordpress recently. Even better, it's chief author (Branden) has gotten involved with the LAMB more lately - always the sign of a good blogger.

Updated LAMB Scroll Box Code
File this under: things I should have thought of long ago.
At the bottom of the LAMB Scroll Box, I tell you to "email the LAMB" if you want an updated version of the code. I get requests periodically, but for the most part, people's boxes on their sites are wildly out of date (even the one on BC gets that way sometimes).
Such is the trouble of not having something that can update dynamically. I've been told by a LAMB (T.C. of Popcorn N Roses, iirc) that I can use javascript to make it do so, but I'm no programmer and doing so would amount to a learning curve that I'm too impatient to endure. File that under: things that I plan to do at some point.
In the meantime, I realized that I could use freewebs.com to store a text version of the code. Then I can post the link to the file here and anyone who wants it can save it and update their box without having to email me. As a bonus, with it up here, perhaps more people will add one to their site. My intention right now is to go through this process at least once a month, so if you don't see a new version by June, give me a hard time and I'll get on it.
Anyway, here's the link: http://www.freewebs.com/blogcabins/lambscrollboxcodes/LAMBScrollBoxCode042309.txt
Instructions: Do a right-click (Mac users, click and hold down or CTRL+click), Save Target As (or Save Link As). In the dialog box, you'll see that the extension has been changed to an htm file. Ignore this for now and save to the destination of your choice. Once saved, manually change the extension from htm to txt. Update on your blog as you desire.
Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

LAMB #275 - Hell Bent for Taters

URL: http://hellbentfortaters.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Hell Bent for Taters
Categories: Humor
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
My site is dedicated to humor and discussion about movies, with a slant toward superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, action and other genre pictures, plus celebrity, music and so on.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I just want an outlet to celebrate and laugh at the fanboyishness all serious movie lovers have for the films they truly love.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I prefer an interactive community where the comments are as important as the posts! If I'm being a jackass, I want my readers to say so.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
This site is only a month old, but I've been movie blogging for over a year at my other blog. [Editor's note: the site is now nearly three months old. Considering that the author is already a LAMB (Pluck You, Too!) I figured it was high time I posted this profile.]
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The second in our FYC series is from Valley Dreamin'. I'll let author J.D. explain it, since he does such a good job at it: "Notice how it doesn't even say it's an FYC ad? Nor that it never specifically communicates what it's point is? So abstract. I'm a genius." Click the image to read the rest of his - there's even a cute puppy in it for you.

PRESS RELEASE: Three Monkeys
Since you write a film blog, we thought you'd like to know that The Auteurs, an online cinematheque and social networking site for cinema, and Zeitgeist Films are celebrating Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan this month by showing his two newest films on The Auteurs for free.
Ceylan's newest film, Three Monkeys, which garnered him the Best Director award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, will be debuting online and shown for free at The Auteurs on April 26, and the filmmaker’s previous movie, Climates (winner of FIPRESCI prize at Cannes in 2006) will be playing online for free from April 23 to May 3.
Three Monkeys will be also be opening theatrically in New York on May 1st. To find out more information, visit Zeitgeist Films. (Note that we're playing it online before the theatrical opening!)
If you'd like to share some assets for Three Monkeys on your site, its trailer can be found, along with more information, on our Studio Blog.
We hope you enjoy these great movies and pass the along the word about our free screenings! We also encourage you to stick around to watch, discover, and discuss movies regularly at The Auteurs by signing up and creating your own profile here.

LAMMY Nomination Voting Progress
As a passive form of virtual pestering, I'll be periodically posting this, a progress thermometer tracking the number of LAMMY voters to date. We're currently at 8, versus a goal of 141, which is 50% of the eligible sites. For reference, last year, we had 35/78 (45%) voter turnout.
Horror bloggers - get on the ball soon or I'm coming for you. In general, you're notoriously bad LAMB participants overall, hanging out in your own little corner with your fake blood and scary music. It's time to come play with the other kids! Don't make me bust out the Einstein pic...

For Your Consideration: Spaghetti Sauce and Sweet Peas
There was mention of this in the comments section of the 2009 LAMMYs announcement post, but just in case you didn't see that, this is your official invitation: send me an FYC image and I will put it up. I don't care if I get one from 50 sites, I'll find a way to get them all up, and as soon as possible (the nomination voting period only lasts until May 4th!). And let this also serve as the first official hint hint to vote: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/430540
The first in the series belongs to our Resident Oscars Blogger. Now, many people might consider themselves to be Academy Awards experts, but as Mikey points out, how many live within walking distance of the Kodak Theater?

LAMB #274 - Ikarus' FilmRezensionsWelt & Unterhaltungskosmos
(Editor's Note: this site is no longer functioning. Thanks to its author for submitting to the LAMB, and pour some out for a fallen homie.)

URL: http://ikarusvpn.wordpress.com/
Site Name: Ikarus' FilmRezensionsWelt & Unterhaltungskosmos
Categories: Common and rare films, Coming-Of-Age movies, reviews, infos.
Rating: G - suitable for everyone
What is the main focus of your site?
I have my focus on writing detailed film reviews on films of any kind of genre, especially those which are labeled as "Coming-Of-Age" titles. Furthermore, I like to deal with the media in general - that is why you will find information and material about music, television or the web 2.0 on my blog, too.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Well, we all know that it is kind of hard to state WHY we are actually doing all this stuff - since it somehow is like a hard work without receiving any actual salary. Especially in my case, since I often sit hours on my detailed reviews (sometimes I even write them bilingual). But, to admit it: I do it for fun, and because I am totally obsessed with movies in general. And: a friendly commendation of a user is more worth than receiving any money - at least for me ! I want my blog to be a reliable source for infos on common and rare films.
Do you prefer an interactive 'community' for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Now, as I said above, I would just love to receive comments of any kind. The communication between the writers and readers is an aspect that matters most.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging for about a year now indeed. Well, I guess that this is not such a long period for some people - but; I will keep doing this to earn more and more experience. About the updates: you can be sure that my blog is almost daily updated. I am visiting my blog at least once a day, to check the visitor number and the comments. There should be a new post at least every second day - while sometimes I am writing up to five new ones on a single day.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Well, these would be: Evangelion 1.01 - You are (not) alone, Millions, and Oliver!
How did you hear about the LAMB?
I heard of this project from a good friend, who also is a blogger.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Well, thanks for your attention; I hope that my description here made you at least a bit curious. Feel free to visit my blog and to leave whatever sort of comments you like. Greetings, Ikarus.

Get to know your Fletch!
I mentioned last week that I was asked to be a part of MovieBlips Box Office Prediction feature that they were running. Well, I didn't want to spoil it at the time, but they also asked to interview me as a part of their Blogger Profile series; humbled, I agreed (I think I'm the first one in the series). Heck, I even sent them a doofy picture of myself for all the world to see.
You can read it all here (just in time for the LAMMYs, no less). Here's a sneak preview:

You are cordially invited to attend the 2009 LAMMY Awards
Can you feel the excitement? One year and over 200 additional LAMBs later, it's time for the 2nd Annual LAMMYs. If you're amongst the majority of LAMBs that was not yet a member for last year's awards, be sure to click here for a recap of last year's events. It's a pretty self-explanatory event, and can be summed up in a nutshell like so:
Judge your peers! Brag about your standing within the LAMB community! Win fabulous prizes! If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can recognize its own every year, so can the LAMB.
As discussed in the final award post from last year, there are a few changes to this year's awards. While we had but 78 eligible LAMBs last year, we have 282 (see below) eligible sites this year. As such, I can't reasonably expect anyone to be even remotely familiar with all of them, much less to go and inspect them for the purpose of an awards ceremony. So, gone is the "vote and tally" method from last year; it is replaced by a traditional nomination/vote process. Also, I've excised three awards and added four new ones, so there are 15 this year. Here are the details:
Click on the link below and nominate up to three LAMBs for each award (no need to rank), save for Best Blog, where you may nominate up to five sites. You are not permitted to vote for your own site, as allowing it would likely negate the effect. The nomination period will last for two weeks (until May 4th). Shortly thereafter, I will post a list of the nominees - five for each award. Another round of voting will take place for another two week period.
Prizes:
- Winners and Runner Ups (new - considering the number of sites, a 2nd place finish deserves a banner, too) of each category will be eligible to place one of the excellent banners below on their sites (the "4" will be exchanged for the appropriate number), created by the LAMMYS "sponsor" RIPE Creative – aka Mrs. Fletch's company. (Banners and code will be emailed to the winners).
- In addition, the sites chosen as Best Blog and Best Blog Runner Up will be eligible for special banners for placement on their site.
- As a bonus prize, the Best Blog winner will get this t-shirt sent to them, sent to me as part of a PR package by Sinuate Media as part of their Blog Smog promotional pack.

The categories:
Best Blog
The self-explanatory big kahuna.
Best Theme
This could be anything, from a blog devoted solely to sound editing to a blog devoted to the work of Clint Howard.
Most Prolific
Who makes you wonder how they sleep at night? Time to let them know their never-ending quest is worthwhile.
Best Running FeatureSome people only do reviews. Some people do commentary. Many have running features; who's got the best one and what is it?
Best Design
Which site looks the best? This could be one that's built from scratch or expanded from a template.
Best Blog Name
"Things To Do In Denver While You're Blogging." Another self-explanatory award.
Funniest Writer
Who's the next Richard Pryor? Or Carrot Top, even?
Brainiac Award
AKA, the "Most intelligent/insightful/academic writer." Who is the Stephen Hawking of film bloggers?
Most Ambitious
Who is shooting for the moon? I leave this one open to your interpretation.
Best Use of Widgetology
Anyone can place a number of widgets on their site, but the right mix and placement of widgets can turn a boring site into a great one. Who does it best?
Best Review
Can you think of film review (or three) in the last year that stands above all others? One whose words so perfectly summed up a film or analyzed it so perfectly that you wish you had written it? Yes, I expect this to be a very, very tight race.
Best Blog-a-thon/Meme
So addictive you just couldn't help but take part. So brilliant, so viral that it took over the internet (or maybe just a bunch of film blogs).
Most Likely to Get Paid for Blogging
Our version of "Most Likely to Succeed."
Best Rating System
Some use numbers, some use grades, some make their own rules. Whose is most impressive?
Best Random LAMB Banner
A special award given to those that have made and sent in a banner. The full gallery can be seen here.
The Link

Though it may take awhile depending on your familiarity, please take some time to visit as many of the LAMBs as you can to give a fair and accurate judging. Use the handy LAMB scroll box to visit them all, use a feed reader, or just type them all into your browser one by one if that's your bag.
On the poll, I'll have a question or two about feedback and any suggestions for the 2010 LAMMYS. Please give your thoughts - what's missing, different and/or better categories, the voting/nomination process, prizes, etc.
Most important - have fun and good luck to you all!

Thanks go out again to our sponsor, RIPE Creative, who created all the countdown pics, banners, etc... for this event.
