It's A Wonderful LAMB: 353 Haiku Movie Review.

I apologize for the lateness of this edition of Wonderful LAMB. Let's just say life took over. Last week was kinda crazy. Anywho, let's do this.

-----------

Blog Name: 353 Haiku Movie Review.
Posting Name: There's a slew of them, it seems. But the "About Me" section refers to Colleen.
Country of Origin: Canada (at least Colleen).
LAMB Number: 72.

Other: I really can't help doing this:

Eclectic Film Taste
Haikus, Podcasts, And Fun Stuff
Unique Reviewing

Additional Syllables: The blog will also apparently add a few extra sentences if need be in a section called "Additional Syllables." But otherwise, they seem to stick pretty regularly to the 353 Haiku Review format. I know this is short, but I felt it was fitting for the theme (and I'm not just being lazy... I swear... mostly). They're a really interesting site with a totally unique reviewing method. And they have podcasts. Yup.

LAMBs in the Director's Chair #1: Danny Boyle

Hi!

My name is Paul, and I run Careful With That Blog, Eugene, a 2009 LAMMY award winning blog about movies, Chuck Norris, and whatever else I feel like rambling about.

Recently, on the LAMB Forums, Alex DeLarge of Korova Theatre suggested doing a monthly forum on a director, as voted on by you, the LAMBs, on the aforementioned LAMB Forums. After picking me to lead this project, a slight delay due to my going to a music festival, and a poll to decide who our first subject would be, we have a winner:

Danny Boyle

So how does this surefire, awesome idea work? Well, for three days (July 7-9), we, the LAMBs, will post about the work of Boyle, who recently hauled in a boatload of Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire. Think that movie was overrated? Really, really like Sunshine and hate that nobody saw it? Just want to write a review of Millions or praise Boyle for his ability to genre hop like a fiend?

Go for it. Write that post, any post, and send it to me at marchhaire@gmail.com, and I'll link it here, at the LAMB.

Any questions? If not, here are some pictures for you to steal:

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #3: Movie Mobsters

If you're a member or have gone to any number of blog directories (i.e. BlogCatalog), you can't help but notice the opportunity to rate anyone's site. Be it out of 5 or 10 stars, everybody wants to be rated, and everybody wants the top score. Additionally, you might find threads in a Community section with individuals asking for or offering to give blog reviews. Some of these are beneficial; many are not.

What none of them really are is from their peers, and certainly not from people who just might visit that particular site on a regular basis. Which led me to thinking that maybe we could provide this service to each other. What I'll do is list a site; all you're asked to do, should you wish to, is critique it. But here's the catch: to hopefully induce the most honest reactions, I'm asking that you don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, whether you're a loyal reader or a never-reader, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes (if need be), then come back and leave whatever constructive criticism and/or comments that you have. It could be about anything: the design, widgets, content, features, name - you name it. Bottom line: how could this site be made better (if possible)?

LAMB #324 - l'eclisse

Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of my site is to review and critique films from the earliest silents to the mid- or late-1980's. In addition to focusing on specific films, I also delve into biographical details of movie stars and cinema history in general.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I hope my blog allows me to improve my writing skills as well as the way I view films in general. I hope to develop a real appreciation for film criticism and analysis, as well as enrich my knowledge of film history in general.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I would love to engage in an interactive community for my blog, but have not had much luck with receiving comments on my entries so far.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been movie blogging since February 2009, and I usually update once (or more) per week.

LAMB #323 - RacsO Ledger

URL: http://racsoledger.blogspot.com/
Site Name: RacsO Ledger
Categories: Reviews, Entertainment, Pinoy, General
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
My main goal in this blog is that I want a sort of creative output for my life. Well since movie is my life, it is predominantly about movies. I sometimes toss in TV, music or theatre. So generally it is my life in movies.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Recently I have been blogging a lot about Filipino films. Filipino films rarely get that much attention, so my goal (for now) is to bring the Pinoy movie scene upfront, and introduce them to the world. And I want my blog to be a vehicle for that. Plus I want to be able to be friend with other movie bloggers, that is why I made this.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I want an interactive community.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Before I tried to blog once a day, now I blog whenever I feel like it so sometimes I blog three times a day I have been blogging for 2 years I think. I used to have a website, but I failed to maintain it.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Pulp Fiction
The Piano
Oro Plata Mata

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I keep seeing it on Valley Dreamin' and I did a little research

To share my thoughts, feelings, opinions on films.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I write. Readers may comment.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Since May 2008. Updates are three to six times a week.

LAMB #321 - Auditoire

URL: http://adrianmendizabal.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Auditoire
Categories: Contemplative Cinema, Reviews, Criticisms, Neoformalism, Film Theory
Rating: NC-17

What is the main focus of your site?
AUDITOIRE BEFORE (September 2008 - March 2009)

A blog dedicated to a serious exploration of the metaphysical and aesthetic realm of Cinema via the elucidation of the visual semiotic relationships present on the films, primarily focusing on the role of film spectator to the absolute visual value of a film. ---- In essence, I TREASURE CONTEMPLATIVE NON-HOLLYWOOD FILMS, a cinema which rejects conventional narration via minimalistic usage of shots and mise-en-scene in order to create a strong connection with the audience.

AUDITOIRE NOW (April 2009 - present)

A blog made in an attempt to capture the beauty of films by engaging on tedious "systematic research consist of posing questions [about it], reflecting on the historical factors that lead to the questions' becoming salient, broaching alternative answers, and weighing them in the light of the evidence." I am also dedicated to presenting "arguments that seek to demonstrate that some answer are than others." This quotations, from film theorist David Brodwell, are primarily concerned about Poetics, specifically Neoformalist Poetics, which is, "while concentrating in historical context, narrative form, and cinematic style, does not exclude thematic interpretations. It absorbs them into a dynamic system --- here, one that reveals why discrete meanings can be the bait at which critics will snap, and how a clever filmmaker has set a trap for them."

Though this approach may call for general films (of different genre) i will still focus entirely on CONTEMPLATIVE CINEMA.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
What i am trying to get out of my my blog is my intense admiration on not just the contemporary contemplative cinema, but film as a whole. Though my central focus right now is the incorporation of the NEOFORMALIST POETICS approach to my criticisms, i am also open to the interpretative approach but less. My blog is in a way a record of my journey through my deeper understanding of films.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I do prefer an interactive community for my blog, but it seems that I elicit a teacher-to-student kind of readership which, I think, is boring. A friend of mine says that my blog is "so profound and deep" (I don't know what she meant by that.) it cannot be grasp by simple-minded readers like her.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started movie blogging at around September 2008. initially, I started with a personal blog but then I changed to film blogging because my blog is dying. From September last year, I update my blog on a weekly basis, sometimes I update daily depending on my mood.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Yi Yi: A One and A Two (Edward Yang, 2000) - I cried on this one, such a beautiful, beautiful movie. I often describe it to my friends as "Life rolled into one!"
A Taste of Cherry (Abbas Kiarostami, 1997) - I often quote a line from this film: "I don't know this road." "I know it, it's longer but a better more beautiful way!"
Eternity and a Day (Theo Angelopoulus, 1998) - A penetrating film of feeling, a rare treat for contemplative cinephiles.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I got the link from FINAL GIRL.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Why did you enrolled in an engineering course than pursuing a career in film studies?

I always wanted to believe that one can appreciate films even if one does not have a degree in film studies. I enrolled in Engineering out of my passion for science and the environment.

LAMB #320 - Porkhead's Horror Movie Hole

URL: http://porkhead.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Porkhead's Horror Movie Hole
Categories: Horror, Reviews and Humor
Rating: The site would probably fall under the age rating of NC-17, since I tend to fill it with bad language and other such foulness.

What is the main focus of your site?
Horror movie reviews, all done with a snotty, sarcastic and derisive slant.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
As a wannabe film journalist, I'm looking to get my work seen, and to keep myself a busy and well practiced writer.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I do love a good conversation and/or argument. Comments are welcome, if not encouraged. Even negative ones. An audience is an audience, even if they're shouting how much they hate me with every comment.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I used to run a rather less impressive blog a few years ago, back when I was still a newbie reviewer. Porkhead's Horror Hole has been running since December '08, and I try to publish at least one new review a week. Since I've finished uni (where I used to write the reviews for the uni magazine) this has become once a day.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Evil Dead, Dead Man's Shoes and Ichi the Killer.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Browsing other horror blogs, I noticed the banner for the LAMB come up with startling regularity. I want in on that.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
For people to enjoy reading my reviews, and possibly find people who have the same opinion as myself.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I would love to make it more interactive and have been trying to do so. Input and discussion about movies is what I want it to be all about.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have had the blog since Feb of this year, and try to update everyday. Which has worked really well the past couple of months.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).

How did you hear about the LAMB?

LAMB #318 - The Rest is Cream Cheese

URL: http://www.therestiscreamcheese.com/
Site Name: The Rest is Cream Cheese
Categories: Reviews
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
The Rest is Cream Cheese (TRICC) started as a general editorial blog about TV, culture, current events and movies. Over the last year, humorous movie reviews and editorials have become the focus.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Like many of us, I would love to make the transition from movie/media blogger to actual film critic and just a better writer in general, but I'm in no hurry and love blogging about films and film related topics. I've been a writer and artist since high school (which took place sometime in the 90's), but only started blogging in 2007. Right now I'd just like to increase my traffic and exposure and am hoping LAMB can give me a boost. I regularly attend press screenings (I also write for a small local publication) so I may not review everything, but the reviews I post are timely, funny and well crafted.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Interactive!

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
TRICC was born in October 2007 with a silly blurb about Star Trek TNG and how bad I thought J.J. Abrams newly announced Star Trek was going to be. Oops.
I post at least a few times a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Jerk, The Empire Strikes Back, Vertigo.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Found link on Pluck You, Too!

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Though you'll notice that TRICC is not entirely dedicated to movies, films and my relationship with the media as well as movie reviews are more featured than anything else. Everything comes back to film for me. It's my first love.

Stump the LAMBs Movie Trivia Quiz Answer: Baby Boom and What Women Want

Cover of "Baby Boom"Cover of Baby Boom

I must admit, female LAMBs probably had the advantage with the last question because the movies in questions were chick flicks. But the question was pretty difficult, so no one got the answer -- male or female.

Here's the question again:

Name the two post-1980 films that take place at least in part at the same fictional advertising agency.

The answer:

The Sloane Curtis Advertising Agency was featured in What Women Want (2000) and Baby Boom (1987). Nancy Meyers was the common denominator between the two, because she directed What Women Want and wrote Baby Boom.

I don't know if you have to be a woman to love both these movies but it probably helps. I enjoyed that both touched on the vulnerabilities and strengths of businesswomen in a meaningful way while still managing to be funny. The transformation of Diane Keaton's character in Baby Boom was particularly poignant and timely, given the era it was released. Women were just beginning to find their power as more than subordinates in the business world, so balancing having a baby and a high-powered career was a relatively new concept.

Here's the next question:

Name the movie in which Agnes Belushi (John and Jim Belushi's mother) plays an uncredited extra in a wedding scene.

Please include the following information in your response:

1. The movie name
2. Your name
3. Your blog name
4. Your blog URL

Send your submission to Carla of Tricky Movie Trivia at info[@]trickymovietrivia.com by midnight EDT July 3, 2009.

Good luck!

Site Name: The Midnight Showing
Categories: Mostly we fall under: reviews, news, rants, top 10 lists, etc.
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
Reviewing what's in theatres, spreading good word about lesser known movies. Keeping people up-to-date with upcoming movies.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Eventually I would like for my blog to become something like Slashfilm, a professional endeavor. Also to create a film community on a smaller level that feels more personal.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I enjoy vigorous debates on my blog and prefer that everyone treat one another as equals instead of pretending the post author is a sort of expert.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Since November 13, 2008. I post at least every other day and try to do so at work.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).

LAMB Shorts.

Alrighty! The other day, Fletch mentioned a little somethin' somethin' that we've come up with over at the LAMB Forums (inspired by somebody else entirely). Now it's time to announce it.

It's summer time, so we thought the LAMBs should put on some shorts. Short films, that is. The LAMB is having a Short Films Contest! So let's just get straight into the rules, shall we?

Rules & Restrictions:

1) Any current LAMB is eligible for this contest.

2) To make it easier and more flexible on everybody involved, everybody can write their own script so that everybody doesn't have to go by the same exact thing (it'll help see everybody's vast imaginations, as well).

3) The named entrant does not have to write, direct, or even star in his/her own film, but will at least have to act as producer given the nature of the contest (though, really, which one of us doesn't want to at least direct our own film?). You can get anybody to do any of it for you (including writing, for those *cough*Fletch*cough* who don't want to write their own movie).

4) Important: At least part of the movie's story must revolve around a divorcing or splitting couple fighting over what DVDs/BluRays go to whom. As long as that's a part of what makes the plot go 'round, it's all good.

5) The movie can be anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes, opening/closing credits excluded (so it can be 20 minutes... if you have 5 minutes of credits on top of a 15 minute movie. However, this does not include credits that are interjected with your opening/closing scene... so no being tricky there).

6) This is nothing professional, so don't feel overwhelmed or obliged to go out and buy professional equipment or use non-protected things (specific music, brands, etc.). You can use copyrighted material. We don't care. As long as the film itself is original.

7) If you do pay for anything, including cast or crew fees, the LAMB will not reimburse you. This is just for fun, so--again--don't feel you must go out of your way.

8) The movie can be any genre--drama, romance, comedy, thriller, horror, etc. However you see the story--as long as it includes the aforementioned stipulation (get it? Because it was number 4?... fine then)--go for it.

9) For contest purposes, the completed film is due by August 31, 2009.

10) It would be lovely if you could email me (nicholasjobe@gmail.com) to let me know if you think you might participate. Though just because you tell me you'll participate doesn't mean you have to. It would just be nice to know how many to potentially expect come August 31. And when ready to turn in the film, you can upload it to YouTube (or some other free video sharing place) and send a link to me at said email address.

Prizes:

Once all entries are received, multiple polls will be set up. LAMBs will be able to view all entries via YouTube (or some other free video sharing place) and vote on their favorites in a few different categories (think of it like the Oscars... or LAMMYs, but not as detailed). The winner will receive some kind of prize... depending on the turnout for the contest. It could be anything from a special button (like for the LAMMYs) or, if there is a big enough turnout, there could be something bigger (at least for the "Best Short" winner). We'll know as it gets closer to August 31.

Anywho... let's start filmmaking! Can't wait to see what we get.

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering: Blog Cabins

[Editor's Note: I had the idea for this feature probably a year ago, which is when I wrote the bulk of this post. I have no idea why I never posted it or what I might have been waiting for to post it, but frankly, I'm just tired of looking at it in my list of posts (I always put the Drafts on top so they serve as constant reminders to "finish this post!"). So, here it is..]

Since this has the potential to be a disaster, I'll be the guinea pig and offer up my movie blog first. So, whether you're a loyal reader or a never-reader, go to Blog Cabins, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes (if need be), then come back and leave whatever constructive criticism and/or comments that you have. It could be about anything: the design, widgets, content, features, name - you name it. Bottom line: how could this site be made better (if possible, haha)?

Site: Blog Cabins

If you're up for this treatment for your site, send me an email with the subject "Bluster Me!" If this proves popular, we'll do this again soon.

LAMB #316 - The Movie Center

URL: http://moviecenter.us/
Site Name: The Movie Center
Categories: We do reviews, previews, cinema history and editorial content.
Rating: To be safe, I'd say we're PG-13. There's rarely if ever any profanity, never any pornographic material or violent imagery.

What is the main focus of your site?
The Movie Center is a blog centered on film entertainment, including previews, reviews, special features (like Primers on specific directors) and editorial commentary on the art and business of film.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
The other writers at The Movie Center and I are all professional freelancers. We create content for the Klat Blog Network in an attempt to generate user traffic via social networking sites like Digg and Reddit, and of course through affiliate blogs such as LAMB.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
All Klat blogs, The Movie Center included, have an easy-to-use comments section, as well as a live chat tool embedded in each of our sites. Community interaction is essential to our blogs' success.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been a freelance writer for several years, but The Movie Center has been active since December 2008. We generally update 2-3 times a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Personally, I love David Lynch's Blue Velvet, Cronenberg's Crash (not the Oscar bait movie from a few years ago, but the weird one with James Spader), and I think Quick Change is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I did a Google search for movie-related blogs.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this submission.

LAMB #315 - Gone Cinema Poaching

[Editor's Note: This site's url is no longer functioning. A moment of silence please...]

URL: http://www.cinemapoaching.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Gone Cinema Poaching
Categories: Reviews, Current Film
Rating: PG-13 ; [may mention sex in plot descriptors of some films, and as a theme in other films]

What is the main focus of your site?
Gone Cinema Poaching is devoted to reviewing current films in theaters right now.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My goals are to publish my writing, and opinions on film for all to see. I'm not necessarily interested in any sort of compensation for my reviews (although that would be quite awesome), films are simply my passion, and I love to write about them.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I definitely prefer an interactive community. Although I do like to keep my reviews professional, I often have conversations with my readers through comments, and I love people's feedback on my writing in regards to how to improve it, or just comments about it.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been publishing reviews through Gone Cinema Poaching since early September 2008: nine months. I publish up to four or five reviews each week, both from me, and my staff.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Chinatown, Fargo, Adaptation.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
From seeing it on several various favorite blogs of mine.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
We have five additional Staff Writers who contribute regularly, not including me, the Editor-In-Chief. Basically, Gone Cinema Poaching is all about expressing my individual passion for film through my opinions and reviews. So, check it out, people!

LAMB #314 - Twisted Flicks

URL: http://moviecaps.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Twisted Flicks
Categories: Reviews, Horror, Humor
Rating: NC-17

What is the main focus of your site?
Exploring the seedy underbelly of world cinema. Reviews and screenshots of weird, twisted and obscure movies categorised by genre (exploitation, art house, surreal etc) and Region (Asia, Europe, South America etc). The blog concentrates on movies made for adult audiences, and for the most part avoids the mainstream.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
For obscure and foreign movies there are very few reviews available, and many don't include screenshots to help make an informed purchase. My blog aims to help others discover hidden gems, and in the process discover more myself.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Definitely interactive. Linking up with like-minded souls to discuss and discover new movies is why I blog.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
About 2 years, updated whenever a worthy movie comes along ... approximately weekly.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Lost Highway, Tokyo Gore Police, Abre Los Ojos.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Seeing the badge on other blogs.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

LAMB #313 - hal0000's Movie Reviews

URL: http://hal0000.blogspot.com/
Site Name: hal0000's Movie Reviews
Categories: Reviews, Classic Film, General
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
This blog focuses on my favorite films, and is a way for me to express my love for them. I tend to focus on Classic films, but in no way do I confine myself to a single era/genre. I like films for many reasons. I may occasionally post on contemporary films that catch my eye, but I tend to focus more on films I've seen more than once. I think great films should stand up to multiple viewings, and that a favorite film must be that way for a reason. That is, you can't like a film solely for the sake of liking it. I think it's great that the DVD can be used to share captures of shots you feel resonate particularly well, and I don't think these things should be brushed off lightly. There's a lot of sweat and blood that went into making films, the least a viewer can do is devote serious thought to each one they like.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
This is just a personal goal to help maintain my sanity and hopefully share some thoughts. It's not so much a cry for attention (although I enjoy discussion) as it is a catalogue of my perspectives. They may change over time and this'll serve as a time capsule of sorts.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Absolutely an interactive community. I'm a cinephile, but a self-taught one. Everything is a learning process.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging for about 5-6 months now. I try to post at least a few times a month although this can vary. Generally, I prefer making longer posts and I'm very meticulous about editing them to make them half-way decent. I try to treat each post with care because I want them to stand up over time.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Rear Window, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Ace in the Hole.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I followed outofthepastcfb.blogspot.com's link to LAMB.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I hope my amateur thoughts can be shared!

LAMB Chops 2.0

Hello everyone, this is Blake. Since Caitlin has retired from her LAMB Chops calling, Fletch graciously agreed to let me take over this feature (which just so happens to be one of my favorites). Fletch and I were both thinking of making LAMB Chops more frequent. What do you think? Tentatively, I'd like to try out the following:

  • One post on Tuesdays, and one on Saturdays.
  • Submissions will be due by noon the day of the postings.
  • Submissions can be anything you've written up to a week before the posting (i.e. the posting tomorrow, the 16th, would accept anything written between the 9th and the 16th).
  • All of this, of course, can change based on what the lambs want.
  • You can email submissions to weeklylambchops@gmail.com.
Comments? Suggestions?

Poll results; new poll

Stupid me. I ask you all how many hits the LAMB gives you, but I do it right before what's more or less "the busy season" around here (the LAMMYs). Methinks the results might have been a little better (i.e. more sites in the higher ranges) had I waited a couple weeks.

Either way, the results weren't tremendously surprising; the biggest shock to me was the person that voted "More than 300"; really curious to find out who that is...

New poll is up. Today's question is about independent filmmaking - have you made your own, or do you plan to in the future? See, there was this post over at Do You Have a Flag? that grew and multiplied and morphed into this thread at the LAMB Forums and...well, just go to the Forums to learn more. More to come on that later...

LAMB #312 - Movie Mobsters

URL: http://roddysrockinreviews.wordpress.com/
Site Name: Movie Mobsters
Categories: Reviews from 1950-Present Date, Top Ten Lists, Polls, Actor and Actress Highlights, Best and Worst of The Week, and General film entertainment
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
To entertain. When I started building the site I asked myself as a movie fan what I would want on a site if I were to visit it everyday. I structured the site around that ideal, making it inviting to readers, user friendly, interactive, and reviews that don't spoil the movies, but give a perspective that explores all aspects of what I enjoyed or disliked about the movie. I also have added a large data base of classic films. A lot of people don't watch older movies, and here was a great way to turn somebody on to a great movie they might not have seen that came out twenty-five or thirty years ago.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Personally, I just enjoy sharing and talking about movies. It's something I've always been passionate about. Writing is also something that I've always been passionate about. Together the two are peas and carrots. Professionally, I've wandered down that path and briefly wrote professionally. It's something I keep in mind for the future, but for the time being I'm enjoying having complete creative freedom to make the site what I want.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
By all means this is geared to be interactive. I may have knowledge others don't and vice versa. At the end of the day, it is based mostly on opinions. This is all about people interacting.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been blogging for over a year and generally update the site on a daily basis. I try to have at least one review a day or some new information to share.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Aliens
Se7en
Terminator 2: Judgement Day

How did you hear about the LAMB?
The Film Reel.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
My goal is to just further this positive experience I'm already living and take it to yet another level. I'm ready to share it with others and have others share it with me.

LAMB #311 - Japan Cinema

URL: http://japancinema.net/
Site Name: Japan Cinema
Categories: Reviews
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of the site is to review movies first and foremost. The twist is I only review movies worth watching on a alphabet scale from A-D, never any F's (because bad films aren't good films of course). The second twist is I only review films that are influenced by Asian culture. This ranges from Mulan to Ichi the Killer. Films from Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, China, etc. are all included.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I am just sharing my passion for films. I love graphic design, films and writing, so my blog is a hybrid of all three elements. I write articles, yet feature custom banners for each flick, and review movies I enjoy.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Teacher. My mission is to turn people on to other movies that they often would dismiss, or never have the opportunity to come across otherwise.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Going on 4 months, and this is one of those blogs that will continue and continue on for years. Updates go up every weekday morning usually before 9/8 c

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Oldboy
American History X
The Fall

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Not answered.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

LAMB #310 - Hugo Stiglitz Makes Movies

URL: http://kolson-kevinsblog.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Hugo Stiglitz Makes Movies
Categories: General: My site covers all things film with a special affinity for Italian Horror.
Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus to my site is to share my amateur musings on film, frequently focusing specific attention on the Italian Horror sub-genre. Really I just love film and want to write about it.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My blogging goals are pretty selfish actually...I write for me. It's a great outlet, and about three years ago I wasn't writing at all, I was sick of it; but lately, thanks to the blog, I've found the joy and passion for writing about film that I used to have as a teenager. I don't think about my blog as a professional site, I rarely seek out publicity, so I guess it's a testament to the quality of the blog (if I may pat my own back for a second) that any readership I've acquired over the years has come with zero promoting or advertising on my part. I comment on other peoples blogs because I like what they write, and I want to talk about film, not to rack up the hits to my own blog.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Interactive all the way. I give my opinions in traditional reviews, but the real conversation doesn't begin until people start commenting. I comment to every person specifically in hopes of fostering a blog where serious film lovers can come and talk about movies.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been blogging for about a year now, and I post something around every three or four days, depending on my work schedule. I'm a teacher, so in the summer there is usually a post every other day.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
8 1/2, Vertigo, Pulp Fiction.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Through some of my favorite blogs like: Final Girl, Film for the Soul, and Lazy Eye Theater.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I have a great group of readers who like my blog and deliver great, awe-inspiring comments. I count myself lucky that so many great writers like my blog enough to read what I have to say, let alone leave great comments. Nothing on my blog is ever self-aggrandizing, and that's what I try to get across -- film writing should not be self-indulgent, it should be celebratory...oh, and I never take myself too seriously.

LAMB #309 - Basement of Ghoulish Decadence

URL: http://ghoulbasement.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Basement of Ghoulish Decadence
Categories: Reviews, Horror, VHS, Betamax, Blu-ray, DVD
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
To provide reviews and insights primarily concerning vintage Horror, Exploitation, and Cult VHS, but also virtually all formats spanning the decades up to Blu-ray.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
An outlet for opinion and creativity, nothing more really. I'm beginning to drift from most of the forums I formerly haunted since I'm not too concerned with the "cutting edge" of genre cinema. Happily living in the past for the most part.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
More of the teacher role, many of the films and topics covered are obscure with other online resources being rather scare in certain instances.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Since January '09, at least once a day, sometimes more.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Waxwork.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Many of my favorite blogs are on the LAMB and I believe my blog worthy of such note as well.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

LAMB #308 - Movie Reviews by Tom Clift

URL: http://reviewsbytom.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Movie Reviews by Tom Clift
Categories: Review, News, Editorials, Humour
Rating: PG-13 (some occasional coarse language)

What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of my site is to review newly released films, but it also contains some film news, new trailers & posters and the occasional editorial.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My primary reason for blogging is simply because I love talking about movies. I would of course love it if it eventually became more successful/a source of income, but that's not a particularly strong motivation.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
An interactive community.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging since late December 2008. I try write at least one film review a week, as well as a weekly feature on the weeks film news. Since I also often post trailers and other videos, I probably update the site at least 4-5 times a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Memento
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
The Shining

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I discovered the Reel Whore blog, which had a link to the LAMB website.

It's A Wonderful LAMB: Invasion of the B-Movies.

Welcome to another edition of It's A Wonderful LAMB! This edition is a very special edition, as we go back in time... in a few different ways. It's an original LAMB with a not-so-original taste in film. And he has a truly wonderful site indeed.

------------------

Blog Name: Invasion of the B-Movies.
Posting Name: Jason Soto.
Country of Origin: USA.
LAMB Number: 5.

Other: What is there to say about Jason? Besides being one of the first LAMB members, he's been a long-time participator in all LAMB-related events. He was the winner of the first ever VERSUS challenge, Sirens of the LAMBs, where his entries for Kill Bill's The Bride beat out all the competition. He's recently won Best Theme for his blog in the 2009 LAMMYS. He also wrote a wonderfully funny article about the LAMMY events. In other words, he's LAMB-tastic.

But what about his blog? Well, when it comes to Invasion of the B-Movies, it's not just a blog. Its main page is a website that links to other things, such as his twitter account, a guide to understanding his site, the reservoir of movie reviews, and, of course, the blog itself. The first thing you might notice is the simplicity of the aesthetics. Jason keeps with the theme of B-Movies by having a B(asic) format.

As for the reviews? Like the LAMMY events article, his reviews are often amusing and funny. Beware, though, as the reviews often entail a full retelling of the film. Think of it as a written version of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (which is fitting with the theme). He writes about the occurrences of the film, as well as how ridiculous or painful they are. So these reviews are best read after having actually seen the movie (to help you understand the references he makes in reviewing and to help with the humor). He will also sometimes use captioned pictures to add to the humor.

The reviews themselves aren't all B-Movies. The majority of them are, but some are reviews of bad films in general, such as Gigli or Batman & Robin. But, yes, the majority of the reviews you will find on the site are horror, fantasy, or sci-fi related. And not all of them are negative reviews, so don't go in feeling they will be. B-Movies (or even modern horror) aren't for everyone, but those that can enjoy them, such as Jason, will find positive reviews they can agree with.

What else is there to say about Jason? Well... I could just let him tell you. In dance.

LAMBScores: State of Play, X-Men Origins: Wolverine & Star Trek

I went on vacation and moved and now I am behind on these, so I'm coming at you with 3 sets of LAMBScores today.
