LAMB #334 - 10 Things I Hate* About Your Movie

URL: http://idontfeelthatineedtoexplainmyarttoyouwarren.wordpress.com/
Site Name: 10 Things I Hate* About Your Movie
Categories: Reviews, Editorials, Humor
Rating: PG-13 (for some language)
What is the main focus of your site?
I created my site to write movie reviews, as well as reviews of other art forms that interest me. Most reviews are written to discuss aspects of a movie as if having a conversation with someone else who has seen it, rather than as traditional reviews with full summaries. There is now a particular focus on organizing my thoughts into lists, though it should be noted that by no means is the site only about things I Hate and often I find myself singing the praises of something I Love (hence the asterisk). The site also includes things in the entertainment world that I find interesting or funny, in particular videos I find worth sharing.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I consider myself a writer but do not have a very strong self-discipline and so started a blog to try to write more frequently and also to learn how to do so in a blog format as this is my first blog. I also love talking about movies and art, so it seemed a natural place to start and to have fun.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I love finding out that people are reading my blog, I love getting comments, and I think I would prefer an interactive community, though I don't have much experience in one so far.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging since February of this year and was posting approximately once per week though much less recently as I have been out of town and will be out of town again for the whole month of August. I hope to post much more frequently.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Murder by Death
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Off of another LAMB website - 1,416 and Counting.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

Invasion of the Lambs #14
Many sites have screencap quizzes, but how many are invaded by LAMBs? Every so often, I'll post a screen shot, only the actors heads will be "lambed out" - all you gotta do is name the film and the bodies that the lambs have overtaken.
Last time out, Paul mistook Jean-Claude Van Damme for Anna Paquin and WaywardJam tied Fox on top of the leaderboard. Who knows what will happen this time?
If there's anyone that would like to submit their own user-made pictures for future installments, please do so - just email to blogcabins@yahoo.com.
Standings:
Fox (Tractor Facts), WaywardJam (Reel Whore): 4
Fletch (I stumped everyone): 2
Joseph (Cinexcellence): 1
Dean (filmicability with Dean Treadway): 1
Norma Desmond (The Flick Chick): 1

LAMB #333 - Final Cut

URL: http://screenspeak.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Final Cut
Categories: Reviews, News, Editorials
Rating: R as I cover a range of films but the language used is more PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
To share my views on film with like-minded folk. I cover a range of genres and time periods so the films I discuss are quite broad so I like to think there is a bit of something for everyone. My main focus is to encourage debate - if we all liked the same films the world would be a pretty boring place.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
One day I would like to make a living out of writing about films. For now, I just want to be able to share my favourite films with others, encourage people to watch films they wouldn't normally give a go and receive recommendations from followers which I can then discuss.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
Interactive.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started my blog nearly four months ago. In the beginning I tried to post daily. Now I try and post at least every other day.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Breakfast At Tiffany's, Rebel Without A Cause and Garden State.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Through Bigger Picture Research.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #8: The Lightning Bug's Lair
If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here's the basics:
What I'll do is list a site; you're asked to critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.
So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.
Site: The Lightning Bug's Lair
LAMB#: 181
URL: http://www.thelightningbugslair.com/
If you're up for this treatment for your site (and you're a LAMB), send me an email with the subject "Bluster Me!" If you've already done so, no need to do it again - you're on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email.

Poll results; new poll
We are, or at least we plan to be, a filmmaking bunch around these parts. 61% of respondents either have in the past or plan in the future to make a film. Will these results bode well for the upcoming short film contest? Time will tell...
New poll wants to know how you spend your days and nights. Okay, it's not invasive - it's just asking which of some of the bigger movie sites do you frequent.

Site Name: Goregirl's Dungeon
Categories: Horror, Trailers, Reviews, Festivals, Commentary

What is the main focus of your site?
Reviews, trailers and musings on horror films from around the world.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I enjoy writing and thought it would be a good daily exercise. I also dig yacking about film, especially horror.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers are the students?
I'm a teacher who likes an interactive community. People's comments are all part of the fun. Taste in film is a personal thing, and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. I try to present balanced reviews and hope the reader takes what they need from that. I hope in the process I can turn people on to some films they might not have heard of otherwise.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been blogging since the end of January 2009. I generally post five times a week, Monday to Friday.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Dead Alive
Inside
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Two blogs I read called Japan Cinema and Film Reel had a link to LAMB on their blogroll.

March to Box Office Madness scoring update (through 7/19)
Though the March to Box Office Madness game technically won't end until late September, I'm going to be periodically posting updates to the standings. It's been some time since the game started, so I figured now was a good time.
We're far enough along that a general shape is starting to show up in the brackets, with one region complete. However, we still have a long way to go, as evidenced by some of the other regions, where as few as one matchup has been decided. To view the current bracket in PDF form, click here (or if you wish to save, do a "Save Target As"): http://www.freewebs.com/blogcabins/march2madnessmaster.pdf
To date, there are 20 available points (there will be a total of 76 possible by the time the game ends). Out of 34 players, we have but one perfect bracket thus far. Here's the complete standings; if you think I've made an error, be sure to let me know. Click here to read all about the game.

Stump the LAMBs Movie Trivia Quiz Answer: Mutiny on the Bounty
Image via Wikipedia
Here's the question again:
Name the movie that had one cameraman die when a barge capsized during filming and also had two other crew members nearly killed because the ship they were on while shooting was lost at sea for two days.
The answer:
A barge with 55 crew and staff members capsized while shooting exterior scenes for the 1935 version of Mutiny on the Bounty, killing second-unit assistant cameraman Glenn Strong. Tragedy struck again when an 18-foot replica of the Bounty sailing ship carrying two crew members somehow got away from its tow and floated at sea for two days until a search party found it.
One a lighter note, Jimmy Cagney happened to be sailing his boat around California's Catalina Island while Bounty was being shot. He asked his friend and the movie's director Frank Lloyd if he could be in the film, so Lloyd had Cagney don a sailor's uniform so he could spend the day as an uncredited extra. David Niven also played an extra in the movie.
Here's the winning LAMB:
General Disdain of The Critical Critics
Here's the next question:
What physical location do 1983's Flashdance and 1986's Back to School have in common? (I'm looking something more specific than the city or state.)
Please include the following information in your response:
1. The location's name
2. Your name
3. Your blog name
4. Your blog URL
Send your submission to Carla of Tricky Movie Trivia at info[@]trickymovietrivia.com by midnight EDT July 31, 2009.

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #6: Invasion of the B Movies
Well, I made it out of the East Coast alive, and was thrilled to see that Blake and Rachel kept the LAMB well fed while I was away. I'm still getting into the swing of things, so don't expect a flurry of posts, but I should be back to speed within a week or so. In the meantime, why don't you go ahead and bluster a bit...
