What is the main focus of your site?
Just to express my opinions about my favorite genre of film, horror.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
No specific goals. Just putting my voice out there.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Since January 2010. I mainly contribute to www.themoviesnob.net when I have something to say and post it on my blog afterwards.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Wicker Man
The Silence of the Lambs
Let The Right One In

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Facebook.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I've loved horror films since I was little but my obsession was recently rekindled when I discovered The Vault of Horror blog and Day of the Woman, to name a couple.

Reminder Post: Bloody Chops for May 1st

I'm a little late posting this but if you want to submit any horror blogs/articles to be included into the first ever Bloody Chops, send all submissions to weeklylambchops@gmail.com by MIDNIGHT EST! I meant to post this last night but I fell asleep. Speaking of falling asleep...

Poll results; new poll

Alright, here's your chance to let me hear it. I obviously missed something of consequence, as nearly 10% of the Johnny Depp poll voters selected "other" as their favorite film of his. So which was it? Alice in Wonderland?

Meanwhile, Ed Wood was the clear winner there, garnering about 1/4 of the 136 (!) total votes, with Fear and Loathing placing a respectable 2nd with 15%. Shame on all of you that picked any of the Pirates flicks.

On the Scorcese track, GoodFellas was the no-surprise-winner, again with about 1/4 of the 124 votes. What was shocking was that Taxi Driver had to make a late surge just to finish 3rd with 12%. The Departed ended up giving Ray Liotta and Co. a run for their money, finishing second with 19%. Good job by me in Otherland here, apparently, as there were but four votes.

The new poll will seem dumb on the surface. It simply asks whether or not you're a horror blogger. I ask because I'd like to get a gauge as to how many of you/them actually visit the LAMB relative to the percentage of overall horror bloggers in the LAMB. Past history tells me it's a pretty low number (which we're trying to remedy!).

Director's Chair #7 -- Day Three

LAMBs in the Director's Chair
Event #7 starring Martin Scorsese
April 28th to 30th of 2010

DAY THREE

Another installment of the Director’s Chair has come and gone so quickly over the last three days. Am I the only one who thinks the time went by too fast? Here we are staring at the third and final day of the seventh installment. During the previous two days, we have sifted through forty articles and movies reviews which going into a detailed discussion about Martin Scorsese and the films he has directed. For today, we will be reaching the last stretch of material, which includes twenty-one articles and reviews. As promised yesterday there will be reviews for Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Bringing Out the Dead, Casino, and I Call First (also known as Who’s That Knocking At My Door). We are fortunate to have someone like Martin Scorsese involved in the film industry. Not only is he a recognizable powerhouse of film directing, but also he is a heavyweight fighter for film preservation and a knowledge expert of film history. Did I also mention that he knows a little bit about acting as well with his twenty-four acting credits? Yes, he is a movie monster. Now without further delay here are the article links for the last day of the Director's Chair #7 series.

Editorials about Martin Scorsese (etcetera).
Reviews for Shutter Island (2010).
Reviews for Taxi Driver (1976).
Review for Mean Streets (1973).
Reviews for Raging Bull (1980).
Reviews for Bringing Out the Dead (1999).
Review for Who's That Knocking At My Door (1967).
Review for Casino (1995).
To say the least it would be appropriate for me to say Thank You to all of those who have sent in an editorial or thematic article other than just a movie review or two. There is nothing wrong with submitting film reviews (I would be guilty as charged for sticking to the reviews for my submissions), but seeing the editorials added to the mix helps with a bit of variety for the series. Personally, it would pose a threat of boredom to be reading five reviews of “Film 1” right before reading another seven reviews of “Film 2” and so on and so forth. Until next time around, I wish you all the best of luck on your blogging, writing, and movie watching.

LAMB #522 - FILM MUSIC ART

URL: http://filmmusicart.blogspot.com/
Site Name: FILM MUSIC ART
Categories: Reviews, General, Classic Film, Lists
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
To create discussions about films I feel passionately about. I don't review every movie I see, only those I feel the need to comment on, whether negatively or positively. Despite the focus on film, I also talk about other branches of art including music, theatre, fine arts, (and coming soon) design and fashion.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I want to become a writer and promoter of the arts when I'm older, so my blog acts as my starting block towards that career. Since I was fairly young (and still am) when I started the blog my writings were quite naive and lacked knowledge but slowly I've been improving on that and honing my writing style and building my cinematic knowledge. So in short - my blog records my evolution as a writer, as a film geek and as an arts lover in general.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive. I want my readers to be my teachers, and I, the student. Constructive criticism is always welcomed.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Been active for 9 months and I endeavour to post roughly once or twice a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Pan's Labyrinth, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Mulholland Drive.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I noticed the LAMB logo on other blogs.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

For Your Consideration: 8th Circuit

Hey you! Send me an FYC image and I will put it up! I don't care if I get one from 50 sites, I'll find a way to get them all up, and as soon as possible (the nomination voting period only lasts until May 12th!). When you're ready to vote, do it here: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/482056

LAMB Casting The Colour Purple: Results

This is Andrew from Encore' s World of Film & TV with your long overdue results for the latest episode of LAMB Casting.

La Mot du Cinephiliaque - Michael chooses:
Halle Berry (Celie); Jamie Foxx (Albert Johnson); Loretta Devine (Shug Avery); Queen Latifah (Sofia); Thandie Newton (Nettie Harris); Morgan Freeman (Old Mister); Don Cheadle (Harpo Johnson); Beyonce Knowles (Squeak); Forrest Whitaker (Swain); Meryl Streep (Miss Millie)

Queen Latifah as Sofia was the standout in this cast for me. Latifah is a good actress when she’s given the chance to steetch her legs and if this was a musical version especially she’d really impress with the singing. Isn’t weird how Meryl Streep ends up in every movie? Even the imaginary ones? I do say, though, I’d love to see her play a racist in full Sister Aloysius style.

Heather of Movie Mobsters chooses:
Zoe Saldana (Celie); Terrence Howards (Albert Johnson); Halle Berry (Shug Avery); Jennifer Hudson (Sofia); Kerry Washington (Nettie Harris); Denzel Washington (Old Mister); Derek Luke (Harpo Johnson); Joy Bryant (Squeak); Don Cheadle (Swain); Naomi Watts (Miss Millie)

I liked Heather’s shoice of PYT Zoe Saldana. I’ve been a fan of hers even before she went all blue on us. It’s anyone’s guess if she’d be a good enough actress (or singer for that matter), but I’m sure she’d give a valiant effort. The choice of Halle to play Shug Avery sounds good to me too. I was a big fan of the original Shug and I don’t know about the singing, but I sense Halle could fill the role nicely.

CS from Big Thoughts from a Small Mind goes original and chooses:
Ziyi Zang (Celie); Tony Leung (Albert Johnson); Gong Li (Shug Avery); Maggie Chung (Sofia); Maggie Q (Nettie Harris); Chow Yun Fat (Old Mister); Andy Lau (Harpo Johnson); Ok Bin Kim (Squeak); Jet Li (Swain); Susan Sarandon (Miss Mille)

CS’s mindf***. It makes me sound vaguely racist, but other than Ziyi Zang and Jet Li I’m not very knowledgeable of the Asian Actors. I have to say though, Susan Sarandon as Miss Millie. Come on! Who doesn’t want to see that?

Anika Noni Rose (Celie); Dennis Haysbert (Mr. Albert Johnson); Beyonce Knowles (Shug Avery); Jennifer Hudson (Sofia); Sophie Okenodo (Nettie Harris); Morgan Freeman (Old Mister); Jamie Foxx (Harpo Johnson); Maria Carey (Squeak); Eddi Murphy (Swain); Catherine O’Hara (Miss Millie)

I was sold at Anika Noni Rose. Someone get this woman to a musical (where she has a song of her own). She’s easily my favourite Celie of the lot, of course this looks a bit like Dreamgirls II with Hudson and Knowles, but you can understand the pretty Knowles playing the lovely Shug and the assertive Hudson playing Sofia.

And Luke of Journalistic Skepticism picks:
Viola Davis (Celie); Idris Elba (Albert Johnson); Kerry Washington (Shug Avery); Jennifer Hudson (Sofia); Taraji P. Henson (Nettie Harris); Danny Glover (Old Mister); Anthony Mackie (Harpo Johnson); Sharon Leal (Squeak); Derek Luke (Swain); Brenda Blethyn (Miss Millie)

I’m surprised no one suggested Viola Davis for Sofia, actually, but Luke has here for Celie. Is she young enough? Though I didn’t love her in Doubt, the woman can act and deserves a role worthy of her, the same goes for Kerry Washington.

So you voted and it turned into a tight race, and the winner by one vote was...Luke of Journalistic Skepticism
So there you have it, the updated version of The Color Purple. What think you?  Were you gunning for the Asian cast? Too much Jennifer Hudson? Sound off below.

Director's Chair #7 -- Day Two

LAMBs in the Director's Chair
Event #7 starring Martin Scorsese
April 28th to 30th of 2010

DAY TWO

Time sure can fly by rather quickly. Here we are staring right at the second day of LAMBs in the Director’s Chair (event #7) and that means it is almost finished. As referred in the post yesterday there is a vast amount of articles submitted for this event, which means it is one of the most popular installments so far. I only wish that you were able to keep up the pace with all the reading material available for us. If the series gains any more popularity, I may have to increase it to a four-day event. For today, there is the second portion of editorials followed by five more reviews for Shutter Island. One of those reviews is available as a podcast, which is quite exciting since this is the first installment to have received an audio review! Keep up the good work, everyone! The rest of the reviews listed for today follow the theme of “Based in New York” as the location for each film. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the articles and reviews. Make sure to show your support for the hard work and dedication these writers have placed in order to participate in the series. Posting a comment on their site under the published article will encourage everyone to keep submitting more material for future Director’s Chair installments. At least, I could only hope it would encourage future participation in the event (wink, wink).

Editorials about Martin Scorsese (etcetera).
Reviews for Shutter Island (2010).
Reviews for Gangs of New York (2002).
Reviews for The King of Comedy (1982).
Reviews for Goodfellas (1990).
Review for Shine a Light (2008).
Hurray, for all of us who made it through the second day without breaking a sweat! Tomorrow will be the third and final day of the event if you are up for some more excitement. As promised to you already there will be the final group of reviews for Shutter Island available alongside the last section of editorials about Martin Scorsese. Are you pumped up about it? I sure hope so. Moreover, expect several more film reviews that will cover the following titles: Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Bringing Out the Dead, Casino, and I Call First (a.k.a. Who's That Knocking at My Door).

LAMB #521 - From Midnight, With Love

URL: http://frommidnight.blogspot.com/

Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
Providing an escape into the world of Midnight & Cult Cinema.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I'm just hoping to bring some attention to some cool flicks that others may have missed, and to have some fun.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive, definitely. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been up for about 15 months, but running steady at 4-5 posts/week since January.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Rear Window, Halloween, Casablanca.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Other blogs.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.

Director's Chair #7 -- Day One

LAMBs in the Director's Chair
Event #7 starring Martin Scorsese
April 28th to 30th of 2010

DAY ONE

Holy thick rimmed eye wear, Batman! It may be safe to proclaim event number seven to be the largest turnout of contributions for the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series in its entire history so far. There may be nothing else shy of a promising guarantee for a large turnout than having the focus point of the current installment to be Martin Scorsese. He is one of the most recognizable directors of modern American cinema, which has drawn together a group of contributory writers from around the world to participate. I am hoping that you may have a bit of extra time set aside to peruse the sixty-one articles that have been submitted for event seven. Do not worry too much since I will have them spread out rather evenly across the next three days. Make sure to stay tuned for each of the days, because all of these articles are definitely worth the time to read. There were many film reviews submitted, but the winner with highest number of entries was for the most recently released film: Shutter Island (2010). In order to offer a bit of a balance for the event I will be splitting up the films reviews evenly across all three days. This would imply that if you do not see your submitted review of Shutter Island on the first day, then keep on eye open for it to appear on the second or third day. The same action has been applied to the long list of career editorials (another Director’s Chair record, I think).

Editorials about Martin Scorsese (etcetera).
Reviews for Shutter Island (2010).
Reviews for The Aviator (2004).
Reviews for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974).
Reviews for The Departed (2006).
Reviews for Michael Jackson's Bad (1987).
The first day of the event is officially closed, but there will be more material available some time tomorrow morning. Of course, there are a few more editorials about Martin Scorsese in addition to a couple more reviews for Shutter Island. In addition, there will be a nice list of film reviews for Gangs of New York, The Kings of Comedy, Goodfellas, and Shine a Light.

Uwe Boll...director, writer, boxer, and infamous director known as the modern day Ed Wood. Whether or not you like him people have always wanted to know what he's thinking when he's making his films. By a stroke of dumb luck I was able to get an exclusive interview with Uwe Boll where we talk about his future, his favorite films and delve into some of his stories of past productions. It was a great interview and even if you hate him, it's worth checking out just to hear some of his answers. You might be surprised.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
To share on my knowledge of the film industry, specially the box office, as I've been analyzing it for years.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I strongly feel there should be both on a site. I should be extremely well written on my subject matter and content, since I am writing to inform using information I've grasped over the years. This doesn't mean, however, that someone else isn't more knowledgeable then I am, and I implore people to comment with both questions, and input.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
This blog has been active for more than three months, and articles are posted daily.

Site Name: The Discordic Adventures of Fnord
Categories: Reviews, General, News, Editorials, Humor, Horror, Lists, Chicago Life
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of The Discordic Adventures of Fnord is to be totally random and to bring people into my randomness... and movie reviews.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My blogging goals are simple. I just want to get my opinion and voice out there. I want people to know what I know and how I feel about these things. Trust me, my opinion is one not to be missed.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I love an interactive community. Comments make me happy because then I know people are reading and enjoying themselves... just not in that perverted way. Perv.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The site started in November of 2009. I post many different posts almost daily.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
I am angry at you for making me only choose 3. There are so many awesome movies out there that I love so much. If I was forced at gun point to chose 3, they would be...

1. Léon: The Professional (The Professional)
2. Superbad
3. 28 Days Later

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I started following Blog Cabins.

He had a contest called March to Box Office Madness 2010 that I promptly joined up with. I even offered to add to the prize pool. He asked if I ever considered joining and here I be.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I am about as random as can be, so sometimes my blogs can be a little out there. I also occasionally use my blog to rant or vent. People seem to enjoy that. Thanks for taking a look at my discordic adventures!

Darren of The Movie Blog, Gary Collinson of Flickering Myth, Sebastian Gutierrez of Detailed Criticisms, Shane Rivers of Only Good Movies, Michael Parent of Le Mot du Cinephiliaque, and Quin from SciFiDrive all correctly answered Senator Roland Burris (he appeared in the St. Patrick's Day march scene)

This weeks quiz comes from Michael Mann's Heat (1995)

Although McCauley (Robert DeNiro) has a 30 second rule how many seconds does it actually take him to leave Eady at the hotel?

Send your answer to counterculturecinema@hotmail.com by May 8, 2010. Comments will be closed to prevent the posting of the answer. Include in your submission: The Senator's Name, Your Name, and Your Blog.

LAMBcast #18

After a few weeks off, the LAMBcast has returned, with an enthusiastic discussion of the lone film that's been worthy of being enthusiastic about to hit theaters in recent weeks, Kick-Ass. Ob board was host Nick Jobe, along with Mike Mendez and Mr. Last LAMB Standing himself, Travis McCollum. Listen up as the gents dissect the Matthew Vaughn flick, briefly discuss some trailers, including the revolting Human Centipede (which Travis has had the misfortune of already seeing), as well as not one or two but three games of Last LAMB Standing.

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums.

As usual, the music, as provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website, is the bomb. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service.

You can find us on iTunes; just go to the Podcasts section and search for "LAMBcast." And hey - while you're on iTunes, why don't you go ahead and either rate the LAMBcast or write a review of it. Better yet, do both! It'll help us get noticed by the overlords at Apple and earn worldwide fame...or something like that.

LAMB #518 - The Pork Chop Express

URL: http://kevinblumeyer.wordpress.com/
Site Name: The Pork Chop Express
Categories: Reviews, General, Editorials, Lists
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
I try to cover a wide spectrum of film, from the indies, foreign, classic and mainstream. I also make an effort to see a lot of the new theatrical releases so I can get my reviews out to my readers as soon as possible. I'm hoping my readers will take my reviews into account when they decide how to spend their hard earned money.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I'm currently a student, but my goal is to write professionally. My blog is a creative outlet that allows me to share my love for film with those who visit it.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I always encourage my small legion of readers to post their reactions to my reviews, and post comments with their own lists when I post mine. When commenters ask questions or state their opinions, I always make sure to respond.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
About 3 and a half months.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Rain Man, Zodiac, Sunset Boulevard.

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I saw it linked on someone's blog a couple of months ago.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I work part-time at an independent video-rental establishment, so I have the privilege of watching (and reviewing) DVD's before they are available to the public. It's also interesting to converse with customers and observe the rental trends.

Last Call for Director's Chair #7

LAMBs in the Director's Chair
Event #7 starring Martin Scorsese
April 28th to 30th of 2010

Submission Deadline
10 PM on April 27th

Hey everyone, it is DJ Heinlein from Matte Havoc stopping by to announce the Last Call for submissions to the seventh installment of the Director's Chair event. The first day of the event will be on Wednesday, April 28th, but the deadline to submit all of your articles is Tuesday, April 27th at 10 PM local time. Remember that we will be focusing upon the directorial work of Martin Scorsese for this installment. For those of you who may be wondering about it, I have no particular restrictions on the time sensitivity with the publication date for the articles that are to be submitted for this event. That means if you have already written and published an article about Martin Scorsese or any of his films, but it was published a long time ago or submitted for another blogathon there is no need to worry. I will still include the article or group of articles in this blogathon as long as it is already live on the internet before April 28th. All of the articles with a direct URL link can be sent by e-mail to DJ Heinlein at mattehavoc@gmail.com. So, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the event, please e-mail those to the same address listed for the article submissions or post a comment below. For a bit more information about Event #7 then jump on over at the announcement post where you can also find a couple of promotional banners to post on your site. Please, do not forget to have the articles sent in by e-mail no later than 10 PM on Tuesday, April 27th. (On a random end note of wishful thinking, I would like to hope that you are going to submit several votes for Matte Havoc in the 2010 LAMMY awards.)

LAMB Chops Ver. 3.0

What's up everybody? This is Jason over at Invasion of the B Movies. I have hacked into the LAMB to tell everybody that whether you like it or not, I will be the new master and commander of the world of The LAMB Chops! Mu ha ha ha ha and stuff.

No but seriously, I will be taking over Chops duty until Blake gets out of prison or NASA or whatever it is and under my reign we shall....do nothing NOT too much different.

There will still be Chops on Tuesdays, but on Saturdays we will be doing Bloody Chops, the all horror LAMB Chops! Sounds like fun, huh? So here's what I need from YOU:

-Send in your chops by Monday so they can be posted on Tuesday. These are going to be the regular chops for non-horror movie sites.
-Send in your BLOODY chops by Friday so they can be posted on Saturday. These are going to be the horror movie chops for horror sites.

Got it? Send them to the usual email (weeklylambchops@gmail.com) and they will be posted. Sound good? Good. Any questions? Leave a comment or send an email to me (invasionofthebmovies at gmail dot com) and it shall be taken care of.
Thank and have a nice day!
-Jason

PS: It would be helpful if you guys could use the same format to send in your chops so I know whos/what's who/what. That would be:

And depending on how many I get, I'll try to cap it at 10 since it's one regular LAMB Chops per week now. Now I'm done.

PLUG: Scare Sarah

Got a new contest going on at Scare Sarah. Here's the link:

http://scaresarah.blogspot.com/2010/04/your-mother-would-enter-this-contest-in.html

I, just like any horror fan worth their salt, love The Exorcist. Like nothing else it has the ability to scare the jeepers out of me. So I though it only right that it is the next subject of my new contest.

Cheers,
Sarah

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don't get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details - I'll handle the rest.

For Your Consideration: Rachel's Reel Reviews

Hey you! Send me an FYC image and I will put it up! I don't care if I get one from 50 sites, I'll find a way to get them all up, and as soon as possible (the nomination voting period only lasts until May 12th!). When you're ready to vote, do it here: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/482056

FYC #4 is from yet another LAMB contributor (coincidence? I think not - these folks were on their game...or they just saw my drafts pending) - this time from the woman in charge of the LAMBScores (which she just posted a ton of today - see below), Rachel of Rachel's Reel Reviews, LAMB #43.

For Your Consideration: Nevermind Popular Film
