LAMB #565 - Enter The Man-Cave (or ETMC)

URL: http://www.enterthemancave.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Enter The Man-Cave (or ETMC)
Categories: Reviews, General, News, Humor, Horror
Rating: NC-17

What is the main focus of your site?
My peers call me a "non-genre specific" blog, but I lean more towards horror and humor. My focus is to write whatever is on my mind at the time, which is always related to some form of media. My film reviews dominate that content up on ETMC.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My goal is to have fun and entertain people. Might sound cliche but it's 100% true. Happy readers make the time put into my blog worthwhile.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I lean towards the interactive. Successful blogs tend to be the blogs that offer interactivity. It makes people feel like they are part of the creation...which essentially they are.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
It has been active for 11 months and I post at least 5-6 days a week depending on my travel schedule.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Evil Dead 2, Jaws, Major League

How did you hear about the LAMB?
My blogger peers.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

I was hooked on Warren William viewing the two entries to the VHS Forbidden Hollywood Collection, Employees' Entrance and Skyscraper Souls--I've been looking for information and other movies ever since. The movie list has finally dwindled to a single handful, with a couple confirmed as lost, but there's always more information to be found, come on by and tell us what you know.

LAMBcast #23

The Soto Curse lives on!

You know how, back in the ye olde days of VHS, how if you watched a tape too much, it would start to degrade and you'd be messing with the tracking trying to fix it? Well, that probably happened a lot to cult movies; those that were watched time and again by a loving few. So it's fitting, then, that the LAMBcast devoted to talking about cult movies features the audio equivalent of those tracking and degradation issue, as is sounds as though Nick Jobe is joining host Jason Soto from inside of a sewer. That's on fire. During an earthquake. Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but better that I prepare you for the worst, right?

Nevertheless, the two soldier on, even creating an alternate version of LLS since it was just the two of them (more Soto curseness). Stay tuned for that and some Trailer Talk and much, much more (just listen intently).

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums.

As usual, the music, as provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website, is the bomb. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service.

Also, we're still on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one. Thanks for listening!

LAMB #561 - Immortal Ephemera

URL: http://www.things-and-other-stuff.com/
Site Name: Immortal Ephemera
Categories: Classic Film, Collectibles
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
Classic film and movie stars from the Silent Age through the Golden Age, with a special emphasis on the 1930's because it's my favorite decade. Most posts are illustrated with vintage movie cards and collectibles of the period and several posts are dedicated to the collectibles themselves.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My original goal was to sell more collectibles, as my business is selling all those items illustrating my posts and that came well before the blog. As time has gone on I've found I enjoy writing more and more about the classic movies and stars themselves. My original goal was to try to make collectors out of all the classic film fans I could reach, but truth be told my biggest kicks right now come from introducing somebody to a title they haven't seen before. Anytime I can gain just one more fan to a classic movie I love, well, that's tough to beat!

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I think we'd all love to see a stream of comments coming with each and every post but with the way the web's gone social and indirect comments through sites like Twitter and Facebook becoming as common as direct comments on the blogs themselves I'm just happy spouting off for whoever is willing to listen and walking away without anyone calling me an idiot.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The blog Immortal Ephemera has technically been active since late 2009, though it's a part of my larger movie card and collectibles site which has been live since 2002. Earlier blog posts dating to 2005 were imported to Immortal Ephemera at launch.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Employees' Entrance (1933)
The Sea Wolf (1941)
The Razor's Edge (1946)

How did you hear about the LAMB?
I've seen the LAMB button on many of the classic film blogs I visit.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I also have a fan site dedicated to 1930's and 40's star Warren William .

REMINDER: Bloody Chops for May 29th

Just a reminder to send in all your horror related posts by midnight tonight, E.S.T!

LAMB #560 - Ingrid Bergman Life and Films

URL: http://ingridbergmanfilms.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Ingrid Bergman Life and Films
Categories: Classic Film, Ingrid Bergman
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
The works, life and films of Ingrid Bergman.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I am trying to keep the memory of Ingrid Bergman alive as well as create a community where her fans can share their stories, blogs and get to know one another.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I do prefer an interactive community but I am not a teacher.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
For a year and a month and I post at least once every 2 weeks (I try to be much more frequent than that).

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Notorious, Gaslight, Casablanca

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Kate Gabrielle told me via twitter.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.

LAMB #559 - A Shroud of Thoughts

URL: http://mercurie.blogspot.com//
Site Name: A Shroud of Thoughts
Categories: General, Horror, Classic Film, History
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
Well, the primary focus of A Shroud of Thoughts is pop culture in general, but film does play a large role on the blog. I tend to focus more on classic film than modern film, with in depth articles on the history of various films, film cycles, et. al.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My goal for my blog is to preserve as much of pop culture history (including film) as possible. I try to cover topics in a depth that many others do not and try to cover topics that usually aren't covered as well.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I like to think I am an actor and the readers are my audience--the comments are the applause (or rotten tomatoes as the case may be).

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
Five years and 10 months, give or take a few days. I update a minimum of three times a week (that is a hard and fast rule I have never violated).

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Seven Samurai
The Apartment
Bride of Frankenstein

How did you hear about the LAMB?
My friends Raquel and Kate Gabrielle (so blame them).

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Blogging is life.

PRESS RELEASE: Visa Signature/Fandango.com

[Editor's note: I realize this essentially reads like an advertisement for Visa Signature and Fandango, but it seems to me that if you already have a Visa Signature card, this isn't going to cost you anything, and in fact could save you money on movie tickets, which sounds like a win-win to me.]

Are you excited for any upcoming, new films? One reason to be excited about going to the movies is that you or your readers may find that you already have a card that gives you a discount on Fandango movie tickets. If one of you has a Visa Card that simply says 'Visa Signature' across it, you could be one of the millions of Visa Signature cardholders who can receive 20% off every $25 in movie tickets at Fandango.com up to four times per month. There are no restrictions on who can redeem the tickets, so it's also a great gift idea for the movie lover in your life.

We would love it if you could share this information with your readers so that they can take advantage of Signature's premier benefits, namely all of the discounts to the must-see events they are already planning on purchasing tickets for.
Learn about this and many more Visa Signature perks by visiting http://usa.visa.com/personal/visa-signature/index.jsp

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don't get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I'll handle the rest.

What is the main focus of your site?
General humor, movie reviews and sharing a Sean Connery obsession and pessimistic worldview with the internet.

I do it because I love writing, movies and writing about movies. I think this blog is a good exercise in writing and it's the most fun part of my day.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive community all the way. I am no teacher, that's for sure.

BLOODY CHOPS HUGE ANNOUCEMENT!!

To stress how important this is, the following paragraph will be in bold.

The BLOODY CHOPS email has changed! Send all BLOODY CHOPS links to "bloodychops@gmail.com". I repeat: BLOODY CHOPS to "bloodychops@gmail.com"! This was done to prevent any confusion over regular chops and the new "classic chops" so instead of remembering two emails you now have to remember...three...um...yeah.

That is all. NO wait. More bold.

I DON'T HAVE ANY BLOODY CHOPS FOR SATURDAY YET! Send them in! Please?

Ok, now that is all.

PLUG: Things That Don't Suck

I’m planning a Christopher Nolan Blogothon to run from July 11 to the 17th. Starting with The Following, I will cover every one of his films, culminating with the release of Inception. I hope to get articles from various people and various viewpoints. The articles can cover anything; his career as a whole, a particular film, or just a particular aspect of Nolan.

I know a two month lead time may strike some of you as excessive, but I’m still a relatively small blog and would like to have actual articles to post during the blogothon and have, y’know people actually read them. So I figure with a two month lead people will have time to write some stuff up, set it aside, and get the word out.

As you may recall from my review of The Prestige in which I named it my fourth favorite films of the decade; I think Nolan is one of the most interesting filmmakers working today and utterly unique in his position of power and influence among today’s filmmakers. Are there more interesting filmmakers then Nolan working today? Perhaps. But none with his canvas, and none with his ability to sell a vision as idiosyncratic as his, to a mass audience.

I find him one of the most intriguing filmmakers working today. And with his seventh film his body of work becomes big enough to be looked at as a whole. It seems the perfect time to do it. And I feel like as an event it could be really special.

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don't get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I'll handle the rest.

Classic Chops

Hello, fellow LAMBs…I’d like to take a quick moment or two to introduce myself. My name is Ivan G. Shreve, Jr. (Hmm…raised eyebrows and a slight gasp…the usual reaction...) I’m just one of the many movie mavens who’s proud to be a member of The Large Association of Movie Blogs…perhaps you’re familiar with my blog, Thrilling Days of Yesteryear.

(chirping crickets)

Well…no matter. The reason why I’m eating up bandwidth is to give you the skinny on a brand new feature that’s being introduced here at the LAMB: one that for a lack of a better title we call “Classic Chops.” Just as the “LAMB Chops” links to essays about films and “Bloody Chops” to posts on horror/science fiction/B-flicks, “Classic Chops” will perform a similar function, concentrating on classic movies.

What defines a “classic,” you may be asking? I e-mailed a few of my fellow classic movie bloggers and we decided that the best definition was to use that yardstick that determines which movies are discussed in the old movies buffs’ bible, Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide. On the cover, Len’s book reads “from the silent era through 1965”—and we felt that was as good a classification as any. So “Classic Chops” will highlight essays on films released in 1965 and before, allowing those bloggers with a passion for old movies to have a bit more of a presence here at the LAMB.

Now, as Phil Donahue was often fond of saying: “Help me out here, people…I can’t do this alone.” And truer words were never spoken—the success of what I hope will be a long running feature here at the LAMB depends on submissions from supporters like you. If you’ve written a post on a pre-1965 film recently…or even not so recently...why not submit a link to same by e-mailing me at classicchops@gmail.com? By that same token, you can also volunteer a link from some other LAMB’s blog that falls within the same parameters…particularly if that individual’s a little on the shy side. Since the inaugural “Classic Chops” post will begin June 2, I ask only that you submit links to me no later than 6:00pm EDT on June 1st.

I have to tell you, I’m pretty stoked about this venture and I’m going to give it 100% to make sure it’s a success. But again, it will mostly come from you – if you have any suggestions, comments, questions, petty gripes, recipes, etc. feel free to address them to me at the aforementioned Classic Chops e-mail. I’ll try to get back to you as soon as it’s possible…barring famine, flood or a case of the sniffles.

Hoopy-doopy, we’ll have fun! We now return you to your regularly scheduled LAMB post, already in progress.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
What I get out of my blog is the joy of talking with others about what I love the most: films. I also enjoy informing others of good films they might have missed out on.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive, everybody teach everybody.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
My blog has been active since August 2009. I try to post something on a daily basis (except on weekends).

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).

PRESS RELEASE/GIVEAWAY: Ultimate Movie Buff

[Editor's note: see bottom for giveaway details]

Super Monko Studio releases ‘Ultimate Movie Buff’: the iPhone app dedicated to cinemaholic people.

In collaboration with ITN, Super Monko Studio has released Ultimate Movie Buff iPhone app on 12th of May, in time for the Cannes Film Festival. By adding videos and images from ITN, Super Monko Studio has added a new dimension to their popular movie quiz, “Movie Buff” app.

London, UK- May 12, 2010- Super Monko Studio today announced the launch of its much awaited ‘Ultimate Movie Buff’ iPhone app. This is a new app following their original Movie Buff quiz app. The ‘Ultimate Movie Buff’ app offers players a fun way to challenge their movie knowledge.

The new quiz includes over 4,800 movie related questions, in fifteen categories, from Director, Actor to Film locations and Synopsis. The new content is complimented with images and red carpet videos from ITN and all new artwork and animation.

The iPhone app aims to entertain its players and encourages social interactions by use of Facebook and Twitter posts. Even cinema experts will find difficult to answer all the questions in time.

“Ultimate Movie Buff is a fun casual game that playfully tests players to their limit. Whether you are a fan of Tom Cruise or Almodovar, the app has it covered”, said Mia Bennett, co-founder of Super Monko Studio. “We have been amazed with some of the high scores of the previous app and can’t wait to discover the new Global Movie Buffs”.

For additional information on Ultimate Movie Buff app or Super Monko Studio, contact them on press@supermonko.com or visit http://www.supermonko.com/. Screenshots and the app can be downloaded from http://apps.supermonko.com/downloads/ultimate-movie-buff and http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ultimate-movie-buff/id370547045?mt=8

[Editor's note, cont'd.: the makers of Ultimate Movie Buff were nice enough to give me a few promo codes, one for me to check out the app myself, and some more to use as giveaways. I can tell you that it's a fun app - a good way to keep your status as a trivia nerd fresh. The only real downside I noticed was that it was a bit too easy, at least early on. To keep playing, time and accuracy play a factor; take too long and/or get too many questions wrong, and your timer runs out. I never had that happen; every time my game ended, it was because I ended it.

Anyway, I'll be doling out promo codes over the next few days/weeks at random. I might mention something here on the main site, or it might be via the Facebook Fan Page, or it might be over at the Forums (so much to keep up with!). Think of them as Easter Eggs. This first one is intended for someone who has yet to vote for the LAMMYs - the first person that goes to vote, then sends me an email with a subject of "Ultimate Movie Buff" wins! (I have a current list of who has voted as of this moment, so don't try to trick me.) This first giveaway offer has expired.

Stay tuned for more chances to win.]

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don't get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I'll handle the rest.

For submitted by, It'd help if it was the name of your blog. I'm trying not to be difficult or a douche, but it'll help me since I have to look through 100s (or 10's, whatever) of links and posts and stuff. Plus there being almost 600 LAMB's it's hard to track down who sent what just going by first nam or intitals.

And finally, now I need Bloody Chops. Send in those horror-related posts by Friday, midnight and they'll be posted on Saturday.

Thanks!

LAMB #554 - The Gore Gore Girl: XXX Through a Feminist Lens

URL: http://www.goregoregirl.com/
Site Name: The Gore Gore Girl: XXX Through a Feminist Lens
Categories: Reviews, Classic Film, Adult Film, Analysis
Rating: NC-17

What is the main focus of your site?
Feminist analysis of hardcore adult film of all genres and eras.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I have a few personal and professional goals: to work through ideas for my PhD dissertation in an informal setting; to express feminist ideologies and analyses in a mainstream and public sphere; and to encourage people to watch hardcore film in ways they hadn't considered before.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I enjoy the interaction I have with my readers, and I certainly do not consider myself their "teacher" -- this would presume I know more than them, or that I'm superior. I'm not. I want to instigate a feminist dialogue, and that is what usually happens.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
My site has been active since October 2008, and I post approximately once a week.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Ecstasy Girls (1979), Amanda By Night (1981), Nothing to Hide (1981)

How did you hear about the LAMB?
Through Scare Sarah.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

Poll results; new poll

Pretty encouraging results from the last poll, as a solid 70% of respondents said "Yes!," they did submit noms for the LAMMYs. I completely understand the 12% that said "no time for love, Dr. Jones," and am okay with a scant 4% that weren't interested and 5% that forgot (not sure how that's possible, though - need I sent out more reminders? I'd think not.).

What I'm curious about is the 8% that said "no - other." What's the story there, folks, if you don't mind my asking?

New poll gauges your interest level in blog-a-thons. I've had a couple suggestions for future bloga-thons come up recently, and with the absence of both the LAMBlog-a-thon and the MOTM, I'm wondering if there isn't a bit of a void left unfilled. I'd think that the Director's Chair series and the Acting School series might fill these somewhat, but I understand that those mostly gather peoples' posts written from their past. I'm also wondering if the demise of TOERIFC hasn't left another void that the LAMB can help to fill.

How say you?

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #37: We Have Beards

It's Blusterin' Time!

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you've asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here's the basics:

What I'll do is list a site; you're asked to critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymou
s, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

Site: We Have Beards
LAMB#: 461
URL:
http://wehavebeards.com/

If you're up for this treatment for your site (and you're a LAMB), send me an email with the subject "Bluster Me!" If you've already done so, no need to do it again - you're on the list, and these will be going up in order of when I received your email (by the way, it could take a while for your site to be Blustered, since I don't run this more than once a week or so).

REMINDER: Pitch the LAMB: Slice and Dice (Deadline May 25th)

Hello, CS of Big Thoughts From A Small Mind here reminding you about tomorrow's deadline for the Slasher edition of Pitch the LAMB.

Helpful Tips: Keep your pitch simple and have fun with it. If you are stuck on what to write, take three or four items from the words/phrases list and try to weave them into a sentence. If you are still stuck, try coming up with a a random title for the film. As we have seen with Dud, Where's My Car?  sometimes the film will write itself given the proper title. Remember the "pitch" can be as long or as short as you like. If you only come up with four or five lines, still submit it!

Movie Genre: Slasher Film

Examples of the Genre: Psycho, Child’s Play, Scream, A Nightmare on Elm Street, House of 1000 Corpses, Friday the 13th, Haute Tension, Prom Night, House of Wax, Halloween, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, American Psycho.

10 words/phrases to get you started:

  1. Corpse
  2. Legend has it that...
  3. Camping
  4. Sheila!...Sheila where are you?
  5. Weapon
  6. I thought I heard a scream...
  7. Run
  8. Do not go out there...
  9. Bloody
  10. Behind you...

As always, your job is to come up with an idea for a film using some of the words/phrases listed above. Once you have a plot idea, post it on your blog in any fashion you choose (e.g. plot synopsis, excerpt of a script, fictional trailer, fictional film review, fake movie poster, etc.) and email the link to bigthoughtssmallmind@hotmail.com. Simple as that! The deadline for submissions is Tuesday May 25, 2010.

LAMB #553 - Between the Seats

URL: http://betweentheseats.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Between the Seats
Categories: Reviews
Rating: G

What is the main focus of your site?
To review as many movies as I can.

More seriously though, I tend to review films through marathons (franchise, series, theme, director, etc) with a few random reviews dropped in between marathon entries.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
Improving my writing skills. I enjoy writing tremendously and I find that writing reviews at my blog is one of several ways in which I can practice and develop my language skills.

It has also given me the opportunity to discover other blogs. Whenever someone is generous enough to post a comment at my blog I make sure to visit theirs.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive, preferably. I don't receive that many comments however.

I am currently doing a joint Star Wars marathon with another blogger at Wordpress though.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I began the site in September of '08. Since then I've posted at least twice a week for an average of 8 or 9 posts a week. There was a brief 1 month hiatus earlier this year due to time constraints and various other issues.

Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
From Russia With Love
Mean Streets
Videodrome

How did you hear about the LAMB?
From a fellow blogger named CS. His site is Big Thoughts From a Small Mind.

Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
As a side note, the type of films I review at Between the Seats is quite eclectic. I will review the latest blockbuster sometimes because I do enjoy them, but I hardly limit myself to them.

Rating: PG-13

What is the main focus of your site?
Entertainment, with an emphasis on movies.

What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I like writing, and I like to have my writing read. I used to be a professional reviewer, but now I just do it for fun.

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Somewhere between those two. I like talking/writing about movies and such, but I also enjoy responding to comments from readers.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I've been building the blog network around Cinema Steve since September 2009, but I am relocating articles to the blogs that date as far back as 2000. I might even be dredging up even other posts. I update Cinema Steve at least once a week, but one or more blogs are updated each day.

The Changeling, The Empire Strikes Back, Time Bandits

Categories: Reviews, General, News, Editorials, Humor, Classic Film, Lists

What is the main focus of your site?
My site is a medium for people to connect with me through my love of film. It's an expression of my thoughts, emotions, angers, frustrations and loves of film all rolled into one.

I have a deep love of film that goes back for as far as I can remember and so I created the blog as a way for me to share that with anyone who is interested

Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactive community. I want to start discussions and debate, I want people to disagree and challenge me or add something to what I am writing about.

How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The site has been active since January 2010 so around three and a half months. I try to update it around 4-5 times a week depending on what's going on.

Stump the LAMBs Movie Quiz: The Hangover

First things first last week's quiz results:

Name the three actors officially considered for the part of Dirty Harry before Clint Eastwood was awarded the role.

Darren Mooney of The Movie Blog, George Litman of The Great White Dope, Heather from Movie Mobsters, Gary Collinson from Flickering Myth, Courtney Small from Big Thoughts from a Small Mind, Anna from Life of a Cinephile and Bibliophile, all correctly answered Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and Frank Sinatra. While Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum and John Wayne met with the studio they were not officially considered.

This week's quiz comes from The Hangover. While Heather Graham played Jade, the stripper, what other actress was originally offered the role? She's been in the news recently.
