If you’ve submitted a link to me and you haven’t seen it included yet—please don’t be discouraged. I don’t intend to leave anybody out—chances are it’s “in the queue” (I’ve received on two separate occasions two submissions for the same film, so I want to give the two reviews a two-three week “breather” before posting them). Just remember, send your submissions to classicchops@gmail.com by next Tuesday (July 6) at 6:00pm EDT…and any questions, comments, suggestions and unsolicited manuscripts should be addressed to that same e-mail address as well. Until next time…see you at the movies!

LAMB #604 - Scared Silly: Classic Hollywood Horror-Comedies

URL: http://scaredsillybypaulcastiglia.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Scared Silly: Classic Hollywood Horror-Comedies
Categories: Reviews, Humor, Horror, Classic Film
Rating: G
What is the main focus of your site?
Scared Silly is a companion piece to Paul Castiglia's forthcoming book of the same name, all about horror-comedy films like the classic features "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein," Cary Grant's "Arsenic & Old Lace” and Bob Hope's "The Ghost Breakers;" plus short subject spook-spoofs by comedy legends including Laurel & Hardy, the Little Rascals and the 3 Stooges; and such low-budget gems as "Zombies on Broadway" and "Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla." The book will include a foreword by noted film and TV character actor, monster movie memorabilia collector and spook show re-enactor Daniel Roebuck.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I love the classic horror-comedy genre and want to enlighten others that there are a wealth of feature films, series entries and short subjects that mix spooks and kooks.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
The purpose is for me to watch and review as many classic horror-comedies as possible and give my thoughts on each, so I guess that makes me a "teacher" (for want of a better term).
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The site launched on Halloween, 2009.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
"Local Hero," "The Third Man," "The Bride of Frankenstein."
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Saw it mentioned on another blog.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.

Categories: Reviews, Review Haiku
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
Movie reviews in haiku form
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
It started out as an everything/nothing blog, but has morphed into a blog where movies are reviewed in seventeen syllables.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
The site doesn't get many comments, but I welcome participation.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
The blog started in 2002, but I've been doing the Review Haiku since February 2007.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Oldboy, The Blues Brothers, Blade Runner
How did you hear about the LAMB?
The Film Cynics.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
I thought doing reviews in the form of haiku would make the blog unique, but it turns out there are other sites that do reviews as haiku, as well.

Poll results; new poll
Apparently, I read more blogs (regularly) than the average bear; even though I expected to be in the higher ranks, I was still surprised that nearly half of the voters selected 1-10 blogs.
That said, it's the two voters in the "More than 100" range that we need to study for scientific use. I'm stretched thin - how do you manage? Kudos as well to the two voters that only read their own work. That's true grit and determination right there.

March to Box Office Madness 2010 scoring update (through 6/27)
Though the March to Box Office Madness game technically won't end until late September, I'm going to be periodically posting updates to the standings. It's been a couple months since the game started, so I figured now was a good time.
Though others could be called as decided, only five "matchups" have been outright, no doubt, for sure decided. Those five are (points per win in parenthesees): Toy Story 3 vs. Why Did I Get Married Too? (1), Shrek Forever After vs. Date Night (1), The A-Team vs. MacGruber (1), The Karate Kid vs. Nightmare on Elm Street (1) and Shrek Forever After vs. The A-Team (2).
As such, there are 6 available points (there will be a total of 76 possible by the time the game ends). If you think I've made an error, be sure to let me know. We have 38 total players. Click here to read all about the game and/or to see the full bracket.

PLUG: ClassicMovieSearch
ClassicMovieSearch.com at http://classicmoviesearch.com/
Basically the entire site is a hand-selected Google index of only Classic Movie related sites and blogs filtering out all of the other junk that often shows up by the bottom of page 1 of a targeted search.
There's a form on the site to submit sites, old or new, just as long as they're good and cover primarily Classic Films. I've been surprised to received numerous submissions which along with my own inclusions have ClassicMovieSearch.com already indexing over 200 different sites.
A few of the initial visitors, most of whom are fellow bloggers, requested a widget and this week I've added that as well.
It's a very simple site, just 5 pages, but it does something I've wanted to be able to do for awhile and apparently others are glad to have it as well.
As I say on the search, "This is the place to come if you're trying to Google Shirley Temple and don't want a drink recipe."
Thanks --
Cliff Aliperti

What is the main focus of your site?
We tend to write about the nexus between gender/sexuality, feminism, and pop culture. We also write straightforward film reviews and analyses.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I just want to talk to some cool people about film and other media, and have some fun while I'm at it.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
Interactivity is beautiful, but it's an ideal we're still striving for.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
We've been around since April 22, 2009, and update usually 2-4 times a week, depending on classes and work.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
The Third Man (1949), Repulsion (1965), and Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975).
How did you hear about the LAMB?
It's all around, like some kind of blogging epidemic, but I decided to join for real after reading about it on Final Girl.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
My co-blogger Ashley also writes sex toy reviews. We're an odd duck of a blog.

LAMB #600 - Wild Celtic

URL: http://wildcouture.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Wild Celtic
Categories: General, Humor, Lists, Moments and movies
Rating: PG
What is the main focus of your site?
Mainly, my site is that of a dreamer. Movies, and moments in movies, fit snuggly into my site's focus. I take part of blog-a-thons, a write about special memories with movies or sometimes I post clips, quotes or requests to find people's favorite comedies.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
When I started blogging, I started it as a place to put my writing, just for me. To my surprise, I found an audience. That audience is comprised of many diverse and splendid people and I have found a community of friends. Blogging, to me, has become about these friendships and keeping each other active mentally and with our imaginations.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I like interactive. That's always the most stimulating and engaging.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been active since the 17th of January 2010. Sometimes I post twice a day, I at least post a few times a week.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Bright Star
Sabrina (1954)
Clue
How did you hear about the LAMB?
Andrew K at Encore's World of Film and TV suggested it to me, kindly enough.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Why do you love movies?
Movies are a reflection of humanity, insanity, reality and illusion. I love movies because I love the world.

Director's Chair #9: Sidney Lumet
Submission Deadline
10 PM on July 27, 2010
Submit all articles to...
mattehavoc@gmail.com
Hey everyone it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. The time has come to announce the ninth candidate of the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. He is a director who has brought us several classic films including a story about twelve angry men, a determined southern politician, an adaptation of a famous play from Eugene O’Neill, and a television executive who is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. The ninth candidate is the versatile director Sydney Lumet. Very few directors are able to helm such a wide range of films from different styles and perform at a successfully talented level. It is a primary reason why he has been selected for this event. For those who would like to see a complete list of films he has directed you should swing on over to his IMDb profile page to see the list of titles. I would like to point out that he has a list of productions that were made for television. Any reviews of the made-for-television movies he has directed will be accepted for this event. Do not forget to consider writing an editorial about his career to add a little bit of freedom in the types of articles you can submit for the Director’s Chair event. Also, for the convenience of promoting the event I have included below a few promotional banners (along with the appropriate HTML code) that can be copied and placed on to your website. In addition, it would be rude of me not to offer a bit of public recognition to Alex from Film Forager who has designed the promotional banners for us. She has produced the banners for the last couple of events and has been producing fabulous material. Make sure to check out her website when you have a moment to spare: www.filmforager.com

LAMB #599 - Cinema Sights

URL: http://cinemasights.wordpress.com/
Site Name: Cinema Sights
Categories: Reviews, Horror, Classic Film
Rating: PG
What is the main focus of your site?
I tend to focus on reviewing more cinematic and artistic films. However, I try my best to strike a balance. For instance, I'm currently working through the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises while also watching pre-90s Krzysztof Kieslowski films. In addition, I'm also working through the films I haven't seen from IMDb's top 250. So I've got a variety I'm trying to mix.
I also co-host a weekly podcasting called Movie Dictator Club with another movie blog, The Reelists.
In addition to that, I'm also trying out this idea I had where I go through a film scene by scene and examine it. I've started with Days of Heaven and talking about the construction and significance of every shot. It's different and a bit daunting but I'm enjoying it.
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
My career gold is to become a film critic, therefore, I started this blog more as a way to get into the habit of writing about films on a regular basis.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
At first, I didn't even allow comments on my blog. But people started asking me if I would allow them, so I did. I'm glad I did because I've been exposed to a lot of great film bloggers that I now keep up with. So initially I stated off blogging as a one way road, but I think it's gradually becoming more communal.
Personally, I'd prefer at least a bit of an interactive community. I wrote reviews for my school newspaper and while it was a great opportunity, it was frustrating because I rarely got any kind of specific feedback. Not from the editors, or any of the readers or my professors. It was just "good job" or "great review" which isn't nearly as helpful to me as getting a comment from a fellow blogger who will often offer up a rebuttal or tell me where they think I'm off or where my logic is faulty.
However, during that time I did get some fantastic feedback from some professionals who've helped me refined some of my writing.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I started the site August of 2009. I try my best to update every day, but, as you might imagine, it's hard to commit to posting something every day.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Days of Heaven
Notorious
The Double Life of Veronique.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
From Ross v Ross. They were nominated for a couple of awards.
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
None.

Sorry they're so short this week. I forgot to mention that I'm going out of town. In fact when you read this, I'll already be gone. I don't come back till Monday so I had to post this early and have it appear in the future. Much like a Terminator. Anyway, enjoy.
Send in more Bloody Chops to bloodychops@gmail.com. Send in regular chops for Tuesday June 29th to weeklylambchops@gmail.com by midnight Monday night EST. That's all for now.

LAMB #598 - Comet Over Hollywood
URL: http://jnpickens.wordpress.com/
Site Name: Comet Over Hollywood
Categories: Reviews, General, Editorials, Humor, Classic Film, Lists
Rating: PG
What is the main focus of your site?
The main focus of my blog is classic films made from 1920 to the mid-1960s. I compare movies, write my opinions about movies and actors and try to raise interesting questions about different films (i.e. recasting, movies that seem like remakes but aren't).
What are your blogging goals, personally and/or professionally? In other words, what, if anything, are you trying to get out your blog?
I am a college student trying to get a journalism degree, and I am also a huge old movie fan. I use my blog to practice writing, get exposure and to share my love and knowledge about film.
Do you prefer an interactive community for your blog or are you the teacher and your readers the students?
I like to inform others about film facts that I know, but I love reader comments and other blogs that tell me new information too. I see blogging as give and take with information.
How long have you been movie blogging for, and how frequent do you post updates to your site?
I have been blogging since last summer, but switched to Word Press in March. I have started blogging at least once a week since I am now on summer break, but it might end up being more.
Name up to three of your favorite movies (and no more).
Since You Went Away, Shadow of a Doubt and The Uninvited.
How did you hear about the LAMB?
I learned about LAMB through a blog post put up by Thrilling Days of Yesteryear
Any additional comments, or give yourself an interview question that's not listed above.
Turner Classic Movies is the only channel I watch. I have lists of about 22 actresses and 18 actors that I'm trying to see all of their movies. I have also seen 372 movie musicals and have started a silent movie list which only has about 30 on it, but it is growing.
