LAMB #947 - Rockets and Robots Are Go!

URL: http://rockets-and-robots.blogspot.com/
Site Name: Rockets and Robots Are Go!
Categories: Reviews, General, Editorials
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
I post reviews of every single film I see in a cinema, among other semi-regular columns and opinion pieces. I love film and most thing's to do with it, so I try and share that.

PLUG: Insight Into Entertainment

With a relatively unsurprising first round, the next rounds look to be a mash up of sex appeal, talent and hotness. I guess they made some damn good movies in the 90s too. Can Brad Pitt take it away or will the 80s winner John Cusack take it? Come vote in Round 2 starting Tuesday, May 31st at http://insightintoentertainment.blogspot.com/

Thanks,
Jess

PLUG: The Movie Snob

[Editor's Note: Sorry for the lateness of this plug.]

Having not seen any of the Harry Potter films was purely coincidental. I kept telling myself I would see them. Then the next film in the series would come out, then the next, until I had fallen behind. I have never read a word of the novels, so I had no desire to seek them out I suppose. Well, I've heard enough. Enough from my friends and enough from media outlets. I must catch up. I must begin the Harry Potter Project.

From here, until the release of the final film in the series, The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, I will be viewing and reviewing each film in the series starting from the top. I will review the films as a newcomer, which I am. I have no knowledge of the franchise or the characters. One film, every Wednesday, and a retrospective Wednesday the 13th leading up to the final picture.

I must say I am excited. Excited to involve myself in this new world (well, new to me) and excited to see what all the fuss is about...

Things kick off Wednesday, May 25th, with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone...

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #49: Eternity of Dream

It's Blusterin' Time!

If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here are the basics:

What I do is list a site; you critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you've asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

PLUG: Just Plain Something

So here's the deal...

Besides my own site Just Plain Something, I write for a TV blogging site called cliqueclack.com. In the last month or so, we've soft-debuted a movie side to the site. My editor Keith McDuffee is looking for some fresh new writers to be brought in for that side of the site, and I would love to extend the invitation to my fellow LAMBs. If you could post a blurb about this opportunity, I would be most grateful. All the information can be found at the link below.

Thanks,
Katie Schenkel

Classic Chops enthusiastically welcomes any essay or post you’ve composed on a film classic—and even though I originally set the criterion at films released in 1965 and before, I have “cheated” a little and included films after that date that I don’t think too many people would dispute are “classics.”  Simply send your submissions to classicchops@gmail.com by May 31 at 6:00pm EST…and any questions, comments, suggestions and unused storage space (I have boxes of crap left over from the move) should be addressed to that same e-mail address as well.  Until next time…see you at the movies!

LAMB #937 - The Droid You're Looking For

Site Name: The Droid You're Looking For
Categories: Reviews, Humor, Horror, Classic Film, Lists, (other) Stick figure drawings of movie scenes
Rating: R

What is the main focus of your site?
There are four main focuses- infographics, lists, humor, and education (I try to be informative; occasionally, that encompasses reviews but I like to mix in introductions to various directors or film movements). In short, there's a little bit of a lot of things. Foreign, classic, and cult films get extra love on my site.

The next Movie of the Month will be...

The poll results are in - thank you to the 67 voters (a new high!) who have made The Thing the next MOTM. Here's what needs to go down from here:

* The first thing you need to know is that June 11th is the big day.

* You have just under three weeks to watch the flick if you haven't already, and to write up something, then send me the link (blogcabins@yahoo.com) to either what you write or something previously written. If you're planning on doing the former, please hold the post in draft until the 11th (you can send a link prior if you have the capability to do so).

* On June 4th, we'll be recording our MOTM-themed episode of the LAMBcast, where we'll dissect and discuss The Thing. If you'd like to get in on it, there are still a couple spots open - just head over to the LAMB Forums to claim one.

* On the 11th, the LAMBcast will be posted, as well as all of the links to anything written. In addition, I'll include a poll to decide what the next MOTM flick will be. If you have suggestions, leave them in the comments here (though I imagine I'll include most of the films from this last poll that received a good percentage of the votes). That poll will run for a week, and then there'll be three weeks until the next event, and so on.

Here are the final results of the poll:

* The Thing, Master and Commander, Fandango, and From Dusk Till Dawn will be removed from the next poll, leaving four spots for new suggestions.

The 2011 LAMMY Nominations

Once again, I'd like to thank the 100+ voters that submitted nominations for the LAMMYs. It's not easy and gets more  difficult every year, with now over 900 LAMBs to nominate.
But now it's time to celebrate all the hard work of the voters and the sites, so let's pick some winners! The nominations are in, and your choices in 15 categories are below. For more information on the LAMMYs, see the introductory post here.

A few random notes:

* Voting runs through June 6th, with results to follow shortly thereafter (as fast as I can count 'em).

* All nominess are listed alphabetically.

* Unlike the nomination voting, if you're a nominee, you're free to vote for your own site.

* Nominee banners have already been mailed out. If you did not receive one and your name is on the list, please email me.

* It was intended that each category have five nominees, however, there were several ties for fourth or fifth place. I granted a nomination to all tied sites.

* See the bottom of this post for a complete list of vote-getters by award.

It's The End of the LAMB Chops As We Know It

So last week I go to check both the regular LAMB chops and the Bloody Chops emails, to prepare to get those posts ready and I find something rather disturbing...empty inboxes. And this was after I took a week off. I was taken back by this, then I was bummed, then I was upset, in that order.

I was upset cause I thought you guys liked the LAMB Chops and the Bloody Chops, but I guess that's not the case anymore. I emailed Rachel telling her the news and we both came to agreement that both Chops will come to an end, if that's what the people want. It was fun running both features but I guess it's time to move on.

In the meantime, we are going to think of something to replace them. And as far as me and Rachel know, the Classic Chops are still going strong so this announcment does not affect that or Ivan in any way, so keep sending the Classic Chops to Ivan. So thanks to everyone who did participate in the past and here's to a new feature!

LAMBcast #69: The 2011 LAMMY Nomination Announcement Show!

The LAMMYs are a jovial, fun time, right? Well, I hope you think so anyway, since we had a bit of a nutty crew on hand for the latest LAMBcast, in which we unveil the nominees in the 15 LAMMY categories. All I can say is, I'm pretty certain that this show - which featured Rachel, Jason, James, Kai and Dylan - set the record for number of edits made during post-production. In other words, that means that we had way too good a time making it, which led to me having way too bad a time cleaning it up. But it's a once-a-year party - it's worth it, right?

Thanks again go out to all of the voters, and especially to Rachel for all the hard work she did this year. And CONGRATULATIONS to all of the nominees! Rachel will have the Official LAMMY Nominations posted here on Monday. Good luck!

Oh, and per Jason, here's James's Honorary Award:

Also on tap:

* Rants of the Week
* Raves of the Week (new!)
* Last LAMB Standing

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to blogcabins@yahoo.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.

Thanks for listening!
