LAMBcast #78: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

Well, the intention was to talk about Deahtly Hallows, Part 2, anyway. Instead, it turned into a lengthy discussion on just about all of the Potter films (and books), as superfan Nick hosted the ep alongside Potter reader Sebastian and film watcher-only Dylan. If you're into the minutiae of the series, then this is the show for you.

Also on tap:

* Rants of the Week
* Raves of the Week
* Last LAMB Standing

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to dylan@manilovefilms.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

LAMB #1041 - Better Than Avatar

URL: http://www.betterthanavatar.com/
Site Name: Better Than Avatar
Categories: Reviews, General, Humor, Lists
Rating: PG

What is the main focus of your site?
Better than Avatar started as a movie review blog that specifically compared all movies to Avatar, a movie which I did not like. It has since morphed into more of a general movie review blog. I review more than just new releases, and like to spread the word about under the radar films or films people may have missed or forgotten about.

Invasion of the Lambs #18

Many sites have screencap quizzes, but how many are invaded by LAMBs? Every Saturday, I'll post a screenshot, only the actors' heads will be "lambed out" - all you gotta do is be the first to name the film and the bodies that the lambs have overtaken.

Pat from 100 Years of Movies started us off right by easily getting Reservoir Dogs for this feature's resurrection challenge. Will he have competition this week?

Brutally Blunt Blog Blustering #56: Ticker Talks Film

It's Blusterin' Time!

If you're new to this feature or need a refresher, click the label at the bottom of this post and see the first few posts. Otherwise, here are the basics:

What I do is list a site; you critique it. But here's the catch: to induce the most honest reactions, don't leave the comment using your normal alias/login - instead, go anonymous, and be as brutally honest (or complimentary) as you wish to be. Also, be specific, and naturally, don't be rude. If I deem anything inappropriate, I'll have no problem deleting the comment.

So, go to the site listed below, familiarize yourself with it for a few minutes, then come back and leave some constructive criticism and/or comments that you have.

And remember: Blustering should be a two-way street; if you've asked to be blustered, you better be a blusterer.

Site: Ticker Talks Films
LAMB#: 966

If you would like to have your blog blustered by fellow LAMBs, please send me an email containing your site's info and "Bluster Me!" in the subject line.

PLUG: Blahblahblahgay

Dear good people at LAMB,

I have a shameless plug i hope you can help me with.

I am advertising a film maker's blog which will detail the steps he takes in trying to get his project made. He is also looking for funding.

You may have already seen my post at http://blahblahblahgay.blogspot.com/2011/07/blahblahblahplugs-bloody-bay-movie.html which links to the bloody bay blog at http://bloodybayfilm.blogspot.com/.

I know it's slightly different from what I usually see on the LAMB, but if you can help spread word that would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Got a Press Release, something to Plug, or a Screener available for review (or some combination of the three)? Ok, don't get all crazy about it. Just click here and give me the details (what, when, where, and a link, for starters) - I'll handle the rest.

PLUG: Encore's World of Film & TV

I know most of us LAMB Blogs are movie centred, but I'm sure that most - if not all of us - spend some time watching TV, even if they don't blog about it. But, I like hearing what film blogs think about TV and with the 2010/2011 TV season just recently over now is as good a time as any. Forget the Emmy's and their often skewed choices, I'm not asking you to make a list of nominees, or even to pick what's necessarily your favourite TV show. All I'm asking is for you to shine a light on any episode of any scripted show which aired between June 1st 2010 and May 31st 2011. It could be a drama or a comedy, a fantasy or a thriller - which episode do you feel made the medium proud? Post your choices on or before August 6th when the list is posted.

Details here:

Thanks,
Andrew

Classic Chops: July 27th

Good news, everyone!  We’re back with another edition of “Classic Chops”…

At the beginning of the month, I announced here on the blog that we would try something different this week in that we would set aside an edition of the Chops devoted to featuring reviews of movies spotlighting unusual or memorable dream sequences.  The response…was underwhelming to say the least.  But I am pleased to announce that we did receive three entries in our “Dreamscape” edition of Classic Chops, which I present for your edification below:

Site Name: Duke and the Movies
Site Name: Duke and the Movies

Site Name: Silver Emulsion
Submitted by: Silver Emulsion

Site Name: Korova Theatre Presents

And I’d also like to draw attention to these classic film links submitted by some of the C.C. faithful:

Site Name: Silent Volume

Submitted by: Out of the Past – A Classic Film Blog

Classic Chops enthusiastically welcomes any essay or post you’ve composed on a film classic—and even though I originally set the criterion at films released in 1965 and before, I have “cheated” a little and included films after that date that I don’t think too many people would dispute are “classics.”  Simply send your submissions to classicchops@gmail.com by August 2 at 6:00pm EST…and any questions, comments, suggestions and decaffeinated iced tea bags should be addressed to that same e-mail address as well.

As always…until next time…see you at the movies!

PLUG: Amiresque

Hey everyone!

Amir, from the blog Amiresque, and I have just started a new series called "A Good Year" in which we discuss a year in which a particular cinematic trend was prevalent - be it a strong slew of films from one director, several great performances from a single actor, or the revival of a genre. In our first episode we're talking about the recent year 2007, and the Western revival that took place with the films "No Country for Old Men", "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford", and "3:10 to Yuma". Come check it out!
