LAMB #1157 - The Last Movieblog
URL: http://fastmovieblog.blogspot.com/
Site Name: The Last Movieblog
Categories: Reviews, General, Lists, (Other) Film Festivals
Rating: PG-13
What is the main focus of your site?
The Last Movieblog doesn't have a main focus. I try to write as widely from different sorts of films as possible, and from all over the world. I write about the most mindblowing films I've seen recently, and snark on the stupidest crap I've wasted my time with. I tend to write posts around themes, and deal with three or more films at once.

LAMBcast #90: The Ides of March
George Clooney. Ryan Gosling. Paul Giamatti. Philip Seymour Hoffman. Jeffrey Wright. Evan Rachel Wood. Director Clooney was able to gather together an all-star cast for his political drama about idealism and honesty, but was he able to make an all-star film? How important (and rare) are films such as this. Those questions and more were tackled by Fredo, Sam, host Dylan, and LAMBcast newbie Alex of And So It Begins...
Also on tap:
* Rants of the Week
* Raves of the Week
* Last LAMB Standing
If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to dylan@manilovefilms.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.
Thanks for listening!

PLUG: Tips from Chip
http://tipsfromchip.blogspot.com/2011/09/movies-by-numbers.html
As I went along I realized that if people read my post titles from newest to oldest they formed a "countdown". After I posted number 10, I decided to see what kind of countdowns other people would come up with. The key to all of these is movies they would recommend. This should be a fun and easy way for people to find out about movies they may not have seen, or even heard of. Here is my link asking others for their own countdowns:
http://tipsfromchip.blogspot.com/2011/10/try-your-own-movie-countdown.html
Thanks,
Chip Lary (aka Tips from Chip)

PLUG: Le Mot du Cinephiliaque
Starting on December 1st through the 7th, I will be presenting nine of the most important figures of the French New Wave. Alongside you'll have the best of their films and a review of a famous film or a more obscure offering. The schedule is as follows:
1. Agnès Varda & Jacques Demy - Since this is a seven day event, I wanted to catch up with the most important figures of the wave. That's why, like in their time, I united Varda with Demy, only to have a big start for this event and also because I don't like to split lovers apart.
2. Eric Rohmer - One of the most subtle, interesting, and romantic directors of the the Nouvelle Vague, Rohmer stands as one of the most accomplished "auteurs" amongst his peers. A director I have seen more than the half of his films and whom I like more and more with the passing of time.
3. Jean-Luc Godard - Does the man needs an introduction? You'll see when you'll read about him and his films in my presentation. An intriguing character and one of the most frustrating to follow.
4. François Truffaut - Truffaut died too young and he was the first director of the French New Wave I really connected with. His bittersweer approach, Antoine Doinel, and his life will be discussed in my presentation of him.
5. Claude Chabrol - A director whose films I' ve never seen, it will be very interesting to discover my first with this event.
6. Alain Resnais & Robert Bresson "The Outsiders" - Even if both of them had never been a part of the Nouvelle Vague, their influence and their movies made prior and during the time of the French New Wave made them "the outsiders" of it. As the many figures that gravitated around the Nouvelle Vague, I must not forgot to list Louis Malle, Jean-Pierre Melville, Henri-Georges Clouzot, and many others.
7. Jacques Rivette - I am ashamed to say that I haven't seen one film from the great Jacques Rivette. A great opportunity for me to discover this legendary master.
I will accept links to reviews or articles about the Nouvelle Vague and also about each and every "auteur". Feel free to contribute! I'm not announcing which films I will be reviewing for every director on the list to keep the surprise and also because I want you to send any reviews you want and not just about the films I will or won't review!
Send your contributions to michael dot parent at hotmail dot com.
I hope to read your submissions and your comments!

The next Movie of the Month will be...

The poll results are in - thank you to the 81 voters who took part. The next MOTM will be Moon, which destroyed the competition by taking in 27.2% of the votes. Here's what goes down from here:
* The first thing you need to know is that November 12th is the big day. You have just under three weeks to watch the flick (if you haven't already) and to write up something, then send me the link (dylan at manilovefilms.com) to either what you write or something previously written. If you're planning on doing the former, please hold the post in draft until the 12th (you can send a link prior if you have the capability to do so).
* On November 5th, we'll be recording our MOTM-themed episode of the LAMBcast, where we'll dissect and discuss Moon. If you'd like to get in on it, there's still an open spot (and maybe more, as some of the participants are tentative at this point - keep an eye out at the LAMB Forums to for the future shows schedule.
* On the 12th, the LAMBcast will be posted, as well as all of the links to anything written. In addition, I'll include a poll to decide what the next MOTM flick will be. If you have suggestions, leave them in the comments here I have a bunch of suggested films, so no more needed at this point. I typically drop off the films that receive the lowest percentage of votes. That poll will run for a week, and then there'll be 3-4 weeks until the next event, and so on.
Here are the final results of the poll:
* Moon, Lethal Weapon, Once Upon a Time in the West, and The Great Escape will be removed from the next poll, to be filled by your previous suggestions.
