Next week, Classic Chops will devote the entire month to linking to essays on films that summarize both Christmas and the holiday spirit.  Normally, the criterion for submissions is usually set at films released in 1965 and before…but in the tradition of giving, I’m going to be most generous and not hold people to this—even though this risks multiple suggestions of Jingle All the Way.  Everybody has written something at one time or another about a holiday classic…so comb through your archives and look for something suitable—and if you can’t find anything, there certainly must be a post from a fellow blogger that fits the bill.

Simply send your submissions to classicchops@gmail.com by December 6th at 6:00pm EST…and any questions, comments, suggestions and used Christmas cards should be addressed to that same e-mail address as well.  (By the way—if you’re curious as to what I’m wanting for Christmas…my wish list is here.)

Let’s make this the merriest Chops Christmas of all previous seasons… until next time…see you at the movies!

The main focus was as a resource for various different pieces of writing, but has now primarily become a repository for film reviews and film-related stuff. I will be streamlining the website in the New Year, to make it entirely film focused.

The LAMBs in the Director's Chair #22

The LAMBs in the Director's ChairEvent #22 starring
Woody Allen

He is a small framed man, wears a pair of thick framed eye glasses, rattles out a lengthy list of self-deprecating Jewish humor without showing any signs of slowing down, and appears to be successful with getting a foot in the door with a lot of beautiful women. When the name of Woody Allen crosses my mind, I immediately conjure up cinematic images from Annie Hall, Mighty Aphrodite and Manhattan as a representation of his on screen persona. Allen is more than just a neurotic persona, of course, as demonstrated by the repertoire of movies that he has written, directed, and starred in. Humorous storytelling would be his strong point and a love for his home state of New York demonstrates his vulnerability. Several writing members of The Large Association of Movie Blogs have sent in their articles about Allen’s career as a film director. It can be a challenge to write about his career as a director when he is heavily involved as a writer and actor in addition to his role as the movie director. All of the submissions have been linked below for your reading enjoyment. In addition to the written articles there are a couple of LAMB members who had partnered up to produce a podcast episode with an emphasis on Allen’s career. To listen to the episode just follow this link to the description page.

LAMBcast #94: Woody Allen

Just in time for tomorrow's latest addition to the LAMBs in the Director's Chair series, the LAMBcast tackles the career of Woody Allen. Dylan, Sam, Dan Heaton, Alex and newcomer Danny Reid dug deep and attempted to rattle around the brain of the neurotic writer-director-actor-institution. We talked up and down the guy so much that we skipped out on the usual format and ditched Rants and Raves of the Week, though of course we saved some time for a couple games of Last LAMB Standing.

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to dylan@manilovefilms.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

Classic Chops: November 23rd

Good news, everyone!  We’re back with another edition of “Classic Chops”…the Thanksgiving Day edition!  Thanks to all of you who contributed essays on films that center around the holiday…not to mention family get-togethers and general mealtime conviviality (and not so conviviality) in general.  The second-to-last entry concentrates on films that are perfect viewing for those of you not into football…and the very last offers up a few items that classic movie fans should be truly thankful for:

Next week, Classic Chops returns to its regular ol’ weekly self,: welcoming any essay or post you’ve composed on a film classic—and even though I originally set the criterion at films released in 1965 and before, I have “cheated” a little and included films after that date that I don’t think too many people would dispute are “classics.”  Simply send your submissions to classicchops@gmail.com by November 29th at 6:00pm EST…and any questions, comments, suggestions and leftover cranberry relish should be addressed to that same e-mail address as well.

But the following week—the Chops is going to kick off a month’s tribute to Christmas-themed films in honor of the season…and while I know that scouring your blog’s archives for Thanksgiving treats may have been a chore, everybody’s written something about a holiday classic (or two) at one time or another.  So get ready to hand in your assignments, kids…starting December 7, it’s Christmas at Classic Chops…and until next week, Happy Thanksgiving to each and every LAMB!

The next Movie of the Month will be...

The poll results are in - thank you to the 98 voters who took part. That's a new record, though I suspect some non-LAMB funny business was afoot, what with the winning film's overwhelming last-minute takeover of the poll... Anyway, the next MOTM will be Dead Man, which destroyed the competition by taking in 34.7% of the votes. Here's what goes down from here:

* The first thing you need to know is that December 17th is the big day. You have about 3 1/2 weeks to watch the flick (if you haven't already) and to write up something, then send me the link (dylan at manilovefilms.com) to either what you write or something previously written. If you're planning on doing the former, please hold the post in draft until the 17th (you can send a link prior if you have the capability to do so).

* On December 10th, we'll be recording our MOTM-themed episode of the LAMBcast, where we'll dissect and discuss Dead Man. If you'd like to get in on it...sorry, that show is full. But keep an eye out at the LAMB Forums to for the future shows schedule, as people often have to bail before the day arrives.

* On the 17th, the LAMBcast will be posted, as well as all of the links to anything written. In addition, I'll include a poll to decide what the next MOTM flick will be. If you have suggestions, leave them in the comments here. I typically drop off the films that receive the lowest percentage of votes. That poll will run for a week, and then there'll be 3-4 weeks until the next event, and so on.

Here are the final results of the poll:

* Dead Man, Behind the Mask and Lethal Weapon will be removed from the next poll, to be filled by your previous suggestions.

LAMB Photoshop #8 Ends and #9 Begins

Ok so...I only got one submission for this topic. Kinda sucks cause I thought it was a good one, along with our new sponsor. But I guess one is better than none. So here is the entry for "If Every Movie Was Made By Merchant Ivory Productions":

Congratulations Matt! Your entry will in the running to win some AWESOME prizes in the future.

So moving on, since this country is already gearing up for the next presidential election, let's see what you guys came up with "If A Movie Character Ran For President" show us their campaign poster.

You have until Monday December 5th at 11:00 PM EST to send in your submissions. Email them to invasionofthebmovies@gmail.com. Please include your name and the name of your site/blog. I will accept jpegs or animated GIF files ONLY.

And a reminder for what you're playing for, we are now offering prizes! The prizes are provided by our friends at LOVEFiLM.com. And they are the following:

1st prize - $75 Amazon voucher (American only)
2nd prize - $50 Amazon voucher (American only)
(If you're from the UK, we will offer you a UK prize pack, so don't let that worry you.)

And that's it. Thanks and good luck!
